Unhappy

They are trying a liquid deicer here in eastern washington (magnesium cloride, I think) The spreaders are out every time freezing temps are predicted. This stuff isn't supposed to promote rust, but my chrome wheels start to rust if I don't wash the stuff off right away. It works prtty good for keeping the roads from iceing up, but is like an oil when it gets on paint or the undercarriage. Sometimes they spray the stuff so thick I have spots where it drips off my truck in the carport.

That is why I live in Arizona. I remember it snowing once about 10 years ago here, (not including the mountains) and it melted the second it touched the ground.

Magnesium Chloride is a salt. All chlorides are salts. Don't know exactly how corrosive it might be, so you might be right. It might be better than some of the other salts but it is a salt so I would suspect it must be at least a bit corrosive.
