My last speeding ticket was $120.00 back in December of 99 I was doing 75 in a 55 and the state trooper would not give me a break by just giving me a warning as it was only 5 days before Christmas when I got stoped by this mean state trooper.

I take it you have big brother cameras on the highways over there. Over here you might of gotten away with a warning because it would have been a trooper pulling you over, either that or a not obeying posted signs. Either way you would have been looking at $35 or more.

Ah yes..the ticket in the mail. Sorry to hear about that F150Europe. When I was stationed in Germany(91-94) I experienced a few myself...40 DM (about $25.00 US then). As long as the ticket was paid..it never showed up on your license.

The cameras are a slick trick...much harder to see than a patrol car.

We're starting to get some of those camera police here too. So far there's about 5 intersections w/them and they have really cut down on people flying through when the light has changed to red. The only problem we've encountered is when my husband is driving the big rig, he's behind some grandma going through/under the light. And Grandma forgets where her accellerator is and slows down. My husband gets caught under the light, behind her and it looks like he's running it. This has happened a couple of times to him but so far no ticket has come in the mail.?????

In Colorado, mostly in Denver, they have these white unmarked ford/dodge minivans that have the photo radar in them. They send you the ticket in the mail. You know when you get nailed is by the one light in the back of the minivan that goes on then off. That is why I have the plate that prevents that... ;-)

Well it was a "surprise" to me.
Maybe there are a lot to come.Hope not.
It happened on the way to a soccergame.
I have been there a couple of times since Semptember 9 th.

Didn't see a van or cop or anything. No cameras there in that area.(only for redlight)

Most likely,I think it was a cop with a laser device measuring your speed from a long distance.
Probably imported from ........ yes The States.Maybe it's still calibrated for US cars/trucks.

BTW:There was no picture with time and location and my truck included just the ticket.
So who says I was there at that time, they should have proof or something.
I can easily deny the whole thing.

F150-Europe,
I know how you feel,

59 in a 50
Prins Alexanderlaan, Rotterdam.

60 guilders.

And there is no discount for being a cop :-(
I hate these camera's, they don't do any good, except add a few 00's to the governments wallet.

Oh, well, could be worse;
camera's for tailgaiting, camera's for traffic lights, now those are some scarry fines.

But since nobody tailgates here, and nobody ever runs a red light nobody has to worry about these camera's, right??!?!?

Sorry guy, but there is a 1% chance of getting out of it.

You wrote:

They stopped sending the picture in the mail (to many guys were getting in trouble, trying to explain who the female was in their car at the time of the picture...).
The picture is taken, processed, and kept just in case you want to spend more money and take it to court.
If you do, be sure to pay the ticket first, if you don't it will turn into a 75 guilder ticket and then 112,50 guilder.
But if you were not there then pay and write them a letter, who knows, if you are a betting man 1% is not all that bad...

Question

Tell me about the tag that prevents the pics from being made.

Where can I get info on these things?

Speeding fines here in the U.S. are sort of Double-Jeopardy.

If you're the type who just has a minimal amount of insurance on your vehicle, it doesn't matter.

But if you have accumulated some property - and have decided that you actually need $500K or $1,000K in insurance -- and/or have a 'fleet' (large family -- kids with cars, etc) of vehicles that are properly (to save your butt if you're at fault) insured --

-- then you're double-screwed if you get a speeding ticket.

Why?

Cuz you'll lose your 'Good Driver' discount!

If you spend one or two thousand dollars a year for insurance and lose that 'good driver' or 'no ticket' discount -- you could find your insurance going up 5-15% for as much as 3 or more years.

Figure it out -- that's a LOT of fine.

Now, the drunken ba$tard that has the minimum required by law on his jaloupy doesn't have a 'good driver discount' to begin with -- so his meager $150 fine is a one-time drop in the bucket.

Bottom line: it pays to spend $500-$1000 on a good lawyer to try to mitigate a ticket.

I don't mind paying my duty to society for whizzing past my local cop as he sits on the side of the road reading the newspaper as his RADAR tags us -- but the more you have to loose -- the more you loose.

I believe photo tickets on Vancouver Island are now a flat $100 (Cdn.) - You can really pick up the drunks, stoned, unlicenced, or otherwise unlawfull drivers with photo radar (LMAO)
Have I got it all wrong, or does speeding really kill people. - I guess - not 'till you hit something ???.
I wonder how much "deader" a guy would be if you hit him at 60kh, as opposed to 30kh??
Just my H/O.

Tina, I believe in most if not all communities, if you enter an intersection while the light is still yellow, you are still okay when the light turns red since you entered the intersection legally in the first place. In this case, the cars with the green light have to wait for you to clear the intersection before they enter it.

What you DON'T want to do is block an intersection. In some areas, like NYC, it's a big fine if you block an intersection.

now here in Iceland they dont stop you unless you go 10 km over the speed limit, that is in the book. but generally they dont charge you unless you go 20-30 km
over the limit and then you pay ?? 100$ for those extra 10 km.
