Talking Where do you get your oil changed.

I just recently stopped doing my own oil changes, because I make too much of a mess, and its a pain for me to get rid of the old oil. I have been having it done at the dealer but it is expensive and takes too long. Today it was $38.00 for, I think, a semi-synthetic Valvoline. It also took almost 2 hours. Next time I will try to find a local place to do it. Where do you guys/gals have it done? Price?

I could never pay $38.00 and wait 2 hours for an oil change. I only pay $29.00 for oil and filter (that is for FULL SYNTHETIC oil). Regular oil and filter should only cost $10.00. I always do my own.

Many places will take your used engine oil...just find one in your area.

I do my own right in my driveway. The waste oil goes right back to the parts store where I bought the oil and filter from (Schucks). I buy oil and filters when they are on sale and/or rebate. The typical oil change costs me about $5.00 and 10-15 minutes.

On my mustang since it sat so low I took it to a local ten minute place I will have the first one on the truck done at the dealer since it will be free so you can't beat that price after that I don't know if I'll do my own or stay lazy and take to where I had it done on my mustang.

I change it in my garage, driveway, and the street by my house (just got done changing the oil in my Honda beater car). I take my used oil to Wal-Fart or most any gas station will accept it (they sell it to recyclers). When I was out in California, I had a hassle with some of the local gas stations about taking the oil, so I'd just come back when they were closed and leave a couple of jugs of used oil out front. The city there (Davis) got wise and started offering us a recycling place to dump it.

My last change, I was "on the road" and wanted to keep Mobil One in it. I was in Yuma and NONE of the oil change places had Mobil One. The only Mobil station in Yuma is a gas/fast food place. I asked there about a Mobil One oil change and they sent me to K-Mart!
I took it to them and they changed all SIX quarts and a new filter in 45 minutes. They only charged me for FIVE quarts because their computer only rang up "5 Qt".
They had NOTHING in their computer for the V-10 and kept saying, "The 460 only takes 5 quarts". I showed them my owners manual AND watched them put in 6 quarts. They still insisted on charging me for "5 Qt" because they could not figure out how to make their computer ring-up "6 Qt" LOL
BTW - Their "bulk" Mobil One is 10W30. I made them pull 6 quarts of 5W30 off their shelf in the Automotive Department to do the change.

Cool

I do mine in the driveway also. For some reason, I just dont trust these Jiffy-Whiz places. My buddie in town here runs a auto repair shop and burns used oil for heat. Cant ask for a better situation.

I do notice that the oil is VERY Black after approx 2000 mi. Do you folks see the same??. I just switched to a full synthetic and am watching it to see if it darkens as fast. Our 94 Taurus with the 3.8 has done this since new, but the 3.0 before that did not.
What gives!?......

I have it changed in my own driveway only! I noticed that my oil was very black on 3K intervals w/conventional oil. Not as dark w/Mobile One even on 5K intervals. Luckily, our county offers used oil collection at a site less than a mile from here.

I take it to the dealer for every second lube job. They do one at 5000 km, I do one at 10000 km then they do one at 15k. This way there is no way for them to deny me warranty work if a problem arises. My manual says I can follow a NON severe service schedule of every 10 000 km.
Also, I find that the Mobil 1 comes out pretty clean.

Fast46--

The oil that I have changed (in both my old 98 and the 00) has been very clean...when I was using Castrol oil..it would darken slightly after a 1,000 miles..but it was still clean 'on the paper towel' at 3,000. I have not changed the Mobil 1 yet..I still have another 1,500 miles + to go. So far though..the oil is still crystal clear and looks brand new. I like it better already.
