Post oh no, something has gone wrong

Has anyone had any troubles with viriuses. I don't know where I got it from, and I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problems. It isn't anything serious, just that everytime you open a new document in word, a thing appears that I copied and pasted for my dad. I can deleat it, but it comes back. We have erased word and reinstalled it, but no improvment. any help would be good.

Are you using MS Outlook Express? I've heard they get viruses for some reason. I like Netscape browser and Netscape mail better.

Do you have an antivirus program? Norton is the best IMO. Get it if you don't have it. If you have any antivirus program, get the latest update, then run a scan of the hard drive. The program should tell you what to do from there.

Your computer has to wear a condum nowadays.

All computers running Microsoft O/S are prone to viruses. They are usually either written in C++, VB, or MS-DOS.
It doesn't matter what e-mail software you have. I run McAfee VirusScan at home. Works great. (as long as you keep up-to-date with the DAT files).
If you would like a copy of McAfee VirusScan v4.5....e-mail me.

The DAT files are free updates weekly. You can even setup the software to get them automatically.

We use McAfee GroupShield for Exchange at work, and WebShield on our Firewall. They work great.

Personally, IMO, I think that virus authors and Anti-Virus software companies are working together. Every so often, people get that false sense of secuity, so the companies have someone release a virus that makes people think they need to purchase the Anti-Virus software. Mo' money, mo' money.....Granted, there are hackers that like to "toy" with people, but I think that the majority of the viruses out there actually originate from the Anti-Virus companies in some way.

For Virus removal, go to suggestafix.com
Interceptor and HKed are the best.
Their forums will also tell you what the best viral proggys are, and which ones are resource hogs.
Tell 'em I said "HI"

Search for a file called NORMAL.DOT. It's the default blank template Word uses for all new documents. Find it and delete it. Delete it out of the recycle bin. Now, start Word again and it will automatically recreate the file. Exit Word. Find the file again, right click, goto Properties and put a check next to "Read Only". That'll keep it from getting altered again. Go abck into Word and see if that makes a difference. Also, check out your Clipboard Viewer under Accessories I beleive, and clear it out incase some corrupt data is still lingering in there. Hope that helps.

lol @ eph! I got rid of that problem using the FDISK command at the DOS prompt and removed the pesky partition it resided on.
