Angry

I didn't mind when both bumpers and the front facsia were replaced under warranty due to shipping damage. Nor was I too bothered when they had to replace the front facsia after damaging the original while replacing the front bumper.

When the synchro in the 5 speed failed after 18,000 non-towing miles I was a bit annoyed to be without my truck for 2 weeks, completely pi$$ed when they let the driveshaft flop around when they rolled the truck out of the shop minus tranny; (hell, minus ANY type of support! Not even a bungee cord!) When the dealership owner called me a "liar" and said the damage they had done to the underside of the truck (with the driveshaft) was already there I was livid.

Tonight the electrical system shat itself (initial diagnosis: GEM module) I was beside myself! And when the new dealer told me MONDAY evening before they could get it in, well, I hate to say it, but I am about ready to set aside the blue oval and go shopping... but, even with a new Chevy or Dodge without a single problem, you still have half a truck. My Ford is better with a non-functional electrical system than the others could ever hope to be!

-Am I loyal? YES.

-Is there a point when you have to say "enough?" SURE.

-Have I reached it? Not yet, but I swear if anything dies on this thing, I'm going to dust off the bicycle.. If I can't drive a Ford Truck, then driving just isn't worth it.

*There's a wee bit of sarcasm toward the end of this post, but the events are true. I'm getting tired of a vehicle that requires extensive shop time every 2 months, at under 10 months old! Is anybody else having quality problems, or is mine the lemon of the bunch?

Regards and safe driving!

Whoa IKE, sounds like you got grounds for that lemon law stuff...I don't know much about it - (and I hope I won't have to anytime soon), but I feel like you have run into a bad chain of events...did you spill some salt or break a mirror or somethin??? Maybe the robots on the assembly line were tired the day yours came through...

Seriously, I feel for you, cause after dealing with several dealerships I am really amazed anyone has a running vehicle these days...I have heard it really pays to be able to watch those guys as much as possible while your truck is there if you can - unfortunate that it is that way, and you have to demand to see whats going on cause they will try to keep you out of the shop area (liability), but tell them to 'shut their hole, you got insurance to cover yourself' and make them let you see it and keep you updated - it will pay off in the long run...

Cool

IKE, I have a new theory about vehicle ownership. I think sometimes things are not meant to be. I have owned several cars trucks and vans (mostly trucks) and none nicer than my current F-150. I have had a seat nightmare, wiper problems and now a transmission problem (slipping?) it's beginning to look a lot like mine is not meant to be. I am just toughing it out for as long as I can and I will try again with another one. I did not even have this much trouble with a 98 F-150 that I bought used with a bent frame I did not know about. Go figure. Good luck.

Ike, start writing letters. Send one to Ford's customer relations center and cc it to the president's office. It won't do any good to ask for a new truck but you can demand that yours be fixed. While the dealers may not care after you drive the thing off the lot the corporate office is very sensitive to customer opinions and complaints. You wouldn't believe the response we got from Ford when we complained about my wife's Mustang.

Ike-
You are not the only one out there with numerous problems. I for one have had my truck into the shop once at 18,000 miles to have the head gasket replaced on the passenger side of my 5.4L Triton. Was told that it would never leak agian, well guess what, at 26,000 miles it started to leak agian. Went to dealership and was told that they would fix it with rebuilding it agian, I told them that was totally unacceptable for me to have them do that. They argued around with Ford and finally got the ok to drop in a new 2000 5.4L. Was without my truck for a week the first time, and then had to bring it back into the shop three days later because they didn't tighten the hose clamp tight enough, and it leaked coolant on the #3 coil, and they had to replace that. The second time that it was in for the engine replacement, it sat in the shop for two weeks, and I called numerous times in that two weeks to see the status of it, and they would tell me that it would be done by the next afternoon, as they had to order parts...that was a bunch of bullsh$% that they were telling me.
I have also had the truck in for a leaking rear differential once, and now it is leaking agian I suspect. The tranny is also shifting excessively firm and they are telling me that is normal. The pitman arm is squeaking when I go over bumps, but they won't replace that either, telling me that there is no fix. Tranny set a code one day when driving for a "1-2" shift error, whatever the heck that is, I asked and they couldn't even explain it saying it is something that they can reset the computer and see if it does it agian. Not to also mention that I have door cracks, and wondering how long until my truck will have the rust on the bottom of the door and tailgate....guessing that it won't be too much longer now!!
Guess that I am saying you are not the only one out there with a hell of a lot of problems with your truck. I still love Fords and will never drive anything else, other than a Jeep. I do have to say that all the times that my truck has been in the shop, I have gotten a Loaner car for free, but it still doesn't compare to driving the truck that I am making monthly payments on, and I have had it for a little over a year now. Just thought that I would share my pain with the truck as well, just to let you know that you are not alone.

Thumbs down

Captain Windsor & Captain Chairless: Lemon it may be, but I am starting to agree w/ Chairless in that maybe it isn't meant to be, and therefore not worth pursuing. I found out today that I lost a $500 insurance deductible because some uninsured ------- in a Chevy van hit my truck while it was parked. So I'm tired of messing with it, Ford or not... (I'll probably change my tune after I go out this weekend and play with it, though)

max mitchell: Dealerships could probably use a lesson in common sense as well. Any other place would be in deep trouble if the owner heard you call a customer a "liar," but when the owner himself does it, you gotta wonder what's wrong with this picture!

MNFORD99: I know I'm not the only one, but it would be nice if none of us had these problems, but I'll take off the rose-colored glasses and come back to the real world now.

Indyfan: Do you have an address?

Have a safe one!

Notice how outfits that sell and service things all advertise Sales and Service. Would'nt it be nice to see one say Service and Sales and really mean it.

Post

Post-Script December, 2000 - February 2001

Well, I had the dealer that "fixed" the tranny do a front end alignment to fix the wandering problem (they didn't) so on Dec. 11, 2000 I took it to another Ford dealer to have the alignment and "squeaky spring" TSB done. They did the TSB, actually fixed that, did an alignment, and raked the rear end of the bed against a light pole pulling it into the shop!!

Talk about mad!! Then they charged me for the alignment!! (which did NO good) I talked to the service manager, and he said they'd "take care of it," and give me a rental. Dropped it off, and they gave me a Contour with bald tires (after a snow/ice storm) where the entire interior had been used as an ashtray and smelled like a bus terminal. They gave me a new rental, and I waited for the truck to be fixed.

When I got it back, my auxillary backup lights were pushed back under the bumper, prompting me to take a closer look. Sure enough, either the dealer or the body shop backed it into something, denting and bending the rear bumper.

They finally cut me a check, after much arguing, for the cost of the alignment...

It's now Feb., I called last week, they have the bumper, but they want to wait until the bedrail trim is in (that's on national backorder!!!!!) to take care of it all at once... I am a *bit* pissed at this point...

Tomorrow I will call again, and tell them I want the bumper, no if's an's or but's about it.

--I still love my Ford, though!!
