Lowering Insurance and Being a Better Driver

Since I'm having my insurance company pay to fix my truck, I know my rates are going to be jacked a little higher.

Now my question is... I was thinking of taking an approved driver's safety class. Should this lower my rates? I know it won't be back at what it is now, but it should be a little lower; I'd think.

This has been my first accident in years... which kind of bothers me because I'm such a great driver and I pride myself in being a good driver.

My other idea is to go after the City's DPW when my ticket is dropped or reduced under the pretense of the operator of the sweeper hit me. Which is the truth. How far do you think I will get with this?

I'm trying to do this one step at a time. But I've kind of hit a dead-set wall, and I'm not sure which way I should go.

I think if you take one of those online courses, which you have to pay for, it might drop your payments by 10%. I have GEICO with full coverage and that's what I did to lower the cost.

Go and talk to your insurance agent, he/she should be able to provide you with a list of approved classes that the company recognizes. No use in taking the class then find out the insurance company won't accept it or lower your rates. They should also be able to tell you any other ways you can lower your rates.

Depending on the company you have, it shouldn't raise your rates since you've been an accident free driver for years. Been with Nationwide last 6 years and just switched to Geico. Each year I do a quote with a bunch of companies and until now no one could beat them out. This year Geico offered rates that cut my premiums in half. Just hope its not a steal customers deal and then raise rates gradually.

Just show your insurance company your logbook. When they see what you have to deal with out on the road everyday, it should be worth at least a 15% discount.

I started using a logbook too and I had no idea how many violations were going on around me.
I admit it's a pain. It takes me longer to get anywhere because I have to slowdown while I'm writing.
I can't write and maintain speed at the same time.

I've also noticed a lot going on behind me, people running up on my rear etc..
Sometimes, I'm writing up the guy in front and the guy me behind at the same time.
Nothing out there but idoits and ignorhinoceroses!

Too funny!! You need to upgrade to a full laptop with a video camera so that you can capture those pesky violators and turn over the video to the proper authorities. I find that I can write better if I just steer with my knees.

Actually, a buddy of mine did that to his truck. He got 2 small IP cameras and he's got an old laptop connected up to a small office switch in his truck. Along with a Seagate USB 250gb hard drive. He's got it on a secondary deep cycle battery hooked to a 200W AC/DC inverter to plug the 2 cams, switch, and laptop into.

He's got one pointing out the front on his dash and one pointing out the rear mounted to his headliner. It's pretty sick.

It's running all the time too.

The best thing about it is that they have a 1 megapixel (1280×1024) capture at 30 FPS. Which is way better than the NTSC police squad car cameras. Meaning that he can pick license plates, colors, and even small dents from a distance.

I would just pay the ticket and forget it.
If you try to fight the City on this you will probably lose.
They may dig up some of there own video showing you were engaged in illegal street racing with the sweeper.

This will not look good for you or the reputations of F-150s in general.

Only if he lost to the street sweeper.

Just lining up with a street sweeper is the shame.
I question why he would even try it, he had a V6 under the hood.
Those diesel sweepers have massive torque, if the brushes weren't down he didn't have a prayer.

From what I read, sounds like he got beat off the line and clipped the sweeper. Whether it was accidental or just out of rage we'll never know.

The bottom line is street sweeper racing should be left to those of us who know what we're doing.
I have many street sweeper kills but, I would never take one on without a rolling start.
Amatuers.

What you need is this:

You simply mount it in the bed of your truck and have somebody back there film every damn thing that goes on while you drive...

Raoul uses one almost like it---it is simply towed by a goat or three as the herd is moving.

Just use the voice recorder on your telephone, and log it later. People will quit honking at you.

Actually, Manual150 and Buckdropper could reprise the roles of Adam-12---hunitng for lousy drivers and litterers..here we see Buck and Manny in the pilot for the 2009 version of the series...

Seeing how the cop car that Manny and Buck would use is manufactured by AMC, they may not actually catch too many of the bad guys...
