Exclamation The Next Blackhawk Down...

With troops still in Iraq, more being sent to Afghanistan, and now the possiblity of troops being sent to Africa, does the United States have enough soldiers available to keep another Blackhawk Down incident from happening. The last thing that the US needs to do is send a small faction of troops in with the idea they will dominate these pirates. Only time will tell what will take place, but there are definitely some lessons to be learned from the last incursion in Somalia.

The U.S. military is considering attacks on pirate bases on land and aid for the Somali people to help stem ship hijackings off Africa’s east coast, defense officials said.

The military also is drawing up proposals to aid the fledgling Somalia government to train security forces and develop its own coast guard, said the officials, who requested anonymity. The plans will be presented to the Obama administration as it considers a coordinated U.S. government and international response to piracy, the officials said.

I still think a well placed aircraft carrier and a couple of surveillance aircraft would just about cap any movements of the pirates. The problem we would have is if we actually found the pirates all they would probably do is rip a few rounds across the bow and fly off.

There is something you need to understand, the Somali Government is NOT going to stop these guys and doesn't want them stopped. When you and your Gov't are broke and you have criminals bringing money, tens of millions of dollars, into your financial system, you aren't going to fix the problem. Anything the rest of the world does is futile until Somali develops a commerce that generates them income. Right now they can't even feed their own people and probably nobody there has even heard the word "job" because there aren't any. It's a sad situation for the folks living there.....if you can call that living.

i think we should just stop giving a damn about Africa and stop sending them food if they are just going to try and hijack it.
