Question My Next Truck

On the way out the door from work today I noticed a 1998 hunter green F150 Lariat extended cab with a long bed with a For Sale in the window. It had the Triton V8 logo and the list of options on the sign included leather captain chairs, tow package, bed liner, cd player, automatic - it looked pretty loaded, it's a good looking truck and appearance wise looks like the guy has taken care of it. It has 44K miles on it and the price is $17,500. When I go to look at the truck - what should I be looking for? Does the tow package automatically mean the engine's going to be the 5.4? The original warranty I'm guessing is for 3 years, 36,000 miles - is an extended warranty worth the money or am I wasting my time. How about the price - seem fair? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I drove a 1973 F100 for 15 years until about 5 years ago. It had the 300 6 cyl engine and the gas milage was dismal - about 11 mpg, uphill - downhill, loaded - empty, it didn't matter. I've been driving a car since I sold the truck and I miss driving a truck but the thought of the gas milage has kept me away. By the way - until I saw this F150 today and happened onto this web site I was just about ready to buy a Chevy. You guys have made me believe that there must be something to the F150 with the dedication I see on this site. Thanks in advance for your replies / suggestions.

well a few things, first just because it says towing package doesnt mean its a 5.4, but since its a lariet its a good indication that it is a 5.4.

LAriet only come in the v8, a good way to see if what is listed is what is actually on it is, get the VIN# from the windshield in front of the driver, and i think you can go to the ford web site and type it in and give you a history of the truck, or go to the local ford dealer,

Well, that seems like a pretty low price for that truck, what year is it? Ask the seller if he doesn't mind if you take it for a day, as a test drive. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't be able to make a decision to buy a truck on a short test drive. I'm always asking myself questions like "Is this enough power for me?" or "I wonder what the gas mileage is like?" Check out some other (Ford) trucks too, so you find the perfect truck for you. Most of all, when you do get your truck, have fun with it!!

N/M I see what year it is. Seems like a pretty reasonable price.

Well it seems to be a bit low of a price for an extended cab Lariat unless its a 4x2 you should give it a very good look over before you decide to buy it also look at Kelly Blue Book and see what the price is on one with same options or close to it and go from there.
