64-bit ruining my life

Ok so its not really ruining my life but i have a little problem. I just bought two old games that i used to play as a kid. The only thing is that i cant install them because it keeps on telling me that i have a 64 bit system and need a 32 bit. Is there anyway to install and play these games on my laptop using a emulator or something? By the way the games are star cotrol 3 and star wars rebellion.

If you use torrents you can download a program that runs a 32-bit version of Windows simultaneously with the 64-bit. Kind of like running parallels on MAC. I did it for a while just so I could sync my iPod Touch but then got tired of it.

ok cool. Do you remember the name of the program. Also, why did you get tired of running both together?

I got tired of it because it was pretty resource-intensive to have both running at the same time. The main reason was because I can still use my old laptop to sync my iPod Touch. I just wanted the convenience of being able to do it on the new laptop, but it was a pain to have to run 32-bit just to sync it.

The program is called VMware. It works well, don't get me wrong. It was just a hassle to do it every time just to sync my Touch.

I would actually look into buying an older computer. I have to imagine you can find one on the cheap, and its likely you'll find more old games to appease your nostalgia.

I have constant nostalgia for old games--but for consoles. So I got me one of these puppies.

Now I find myself buying more and more old NES and SNES games.

I love how anyone with a Mac automatically responds to any issue with another OS with "Buy a Mac"

Yeah, buy an overpriced, under supported non scalable machine and be at Apples will for anything you need. Sounds great. Of course, most people aren't going to go out and shell out the cash needed for a Mac to solve a minor issue that is easily resolved in windows.

A MAC can do anything that windows can do, including more.

Look how many MAC specific applications, programs, games there are
And with the ability of bootcamp (running windows on a mac) you can do ANYTHING a PC can do also! The choice is obvious

Back on topic....the 64 bit version of windows has some compatibility issues with current software. The same problems as with when a 64 bit version of XP launched. To fix your problem, all you need is a new correct set of drivers available from the game developer/publisher. Check the website, email...search around in google, im sure you'll find your answer

I felt the same way. My wife wanted a imac so I laid alot of cash down and bought the Apple and when I got home with it I said too myself why did spend all this money on this, I could have bought two computers for the price of this thing. But after three days of using this thing I would never even think of using windows again. I am running mac OS X 10.5.6 Leopard and it is so much simpler and the photo software is incredible. You can just plug in your camera and begin downloading, no drivers or software needed. I have a few cameras and I just plug and download and it sorts and processes all the photos with ease and not too mention no need for all the spyware and virus software. I certainly will not tell anyone what too buy, other than a F150, but if I had it too do over again, I would have bought a Macintosh from day one. This is one awsome machine..

That's your solution to him wanting to be able to play a VIDEO GAME? Macs don't do video games. Thanks for your mindless brainwashed comment that provides no valuable information whatsoever.

Wrong. Games. End of story, nice try.

All you Mac users ALWAYS respond with Bootcamp as a solution to your shortcomings. Bootcamp this, Bootcamp that, Bootcamp doesn't work the way it should. Why buy a Mac just to use a crippled version of Windows when you could have bought a PC for 2/3 the price in the first place. Name one thing that Macs can do and PC's can't.

Why are we talking about x64 XP? Anybody who knew anything never used it. It was a complete flop.

Back to the OP, when it tries to install, change the install directory to the Program Files(x86) folder instead of the Program Files folder.

That is cool and all, but my Dell Inspiron 1705 with Windows XP does the same thing. I plug in my camera, and wah-lah it works! No hunting drivers, no cd's to install. I select all the pics I want off my camera, select where I want them to go and it does the rest. Nice and neat. Same thing for my GF's camera, my Jabra BT device to send stuff to/from my phone/computer, my USB flash drives, etc. plug it in and it works. I only have Nod32 for anti-virus software.(Thanks again Arca!) I see no need to spend that kind of money just for a name and logo.
