Question Anyone use their truck to pull?

Are any of you truck pullers? If so let me know. I'm looking to make some mods on my truck and would like to chat about them.

Cool

I've pulled my dad's 22' Bayliner a few times to Homer,AK which is about a 5-6 hour trip from Anchorage. I believe the boat is around 6000 lbs. It runs pretty decent up hills with the OD off.
During the winter, I pull a snowmachine trailor with two snowmachines. That's a piece of cake.

Go to the Towing and Hauling section. Plenty of us there. Lots to talk about.

Talking

Not hauling, or pulling a boat, I mean hooking you truck up to a pulling sled and lettin' it rip!

Ya know, 300 feet down a dirt track.

Is anyone with me?

I think he's talking about those truck pulls where the sled has a weight that moves forward over the skids. The trailer is pulled thru dirt and as the weight moves forward, the friction is increased until the pulling truck can only spin its wheels in the dirt.

Haven't seen a truck pull on tv for a while. Enjoyed watching it when it was.

Dennis,

You hit the nail on the head! It's a lot of fun, but it's pretty competitive. I'm looking to make my screw more competitive.

WOW you do that with a 2001? With the aluminium tranny... I would get me a 1978 F150 with a 460, those trucks have a C4 or C6 Transmission and a NP205 Transfercase! Lot's more tough than our trucks of today!

I think they have those races in the Tough Truck competitions! I was going to go to Vermont with my 1978 Bronco but after Reading the rules and looking into it, I would need to haul my Bronco to Vermont because it would most likely break down during the competition....

Hey Wingnut33,
I live fairly close to Art Arfons's place. Rumor has it he's not doing much these days! He might just have a jet engine for sale, you want me to check??

anteater,

A jet engine would be niiiiiice. I need that kind of power, I can't keep up with the Dodge boys. They seem to get their 1/2 tons to pull really well. I think part of it is the solid front axle.

I'm struggling with weight right now. I need to be 5K or under, but I'm at 5400lbs. If I can't get'er down to 5K, the 5800 lb class will kick my butt up and down the track.

Maybe I could hide the jet engine and jump into the heavy class. No one would notice, right?

I learned my lesson pulling things (like stuck chevys and toyotas) with my 85' Lariat 4x4. I snapped my fair share of u-joints and front axle joints pulling "friends" from the mud. They were happy to get out, but I was the one stuck with the busted u-joints (even cracked transfer case once) at the end of the day. I imagine truck pulling is equally bad on a truck.
