I'm no pro, but 'Is' would refer to 'one' or single and 'are' would refer to a group, I believe?

Being that it's talking about Waldhart family, I would assume "are" is correct.

Family is still singular though no? As opposed to families? I don't know. Haha. Looks like a few of use are going to learn something here.

The first example is correct because they are refering to the family as a single unit.

My English classes were almost a half a century ago, but I wonder if the word "which" might be correct instead of "who" and in that case, the word "is" would be correct.

This. A family is made up of multiple people, however it is still one unit. If your wording was "families" then #2 would be correct.

Family, while a group of people is singular. While "are" sounds correct, the correct verb is "is."

Would one say,
"My family are going to Disnely World."?

or

My family is going to Disney World."?

referee54: "Raoul, use 'I' in a sentence for the class."

Raoul: "I is..."

referee54: "Raoul! Never use 'I is' always use 'I am'!"

Raoul: "Okay." "I am...the ninth letter of the alphabet."

I don't have an answer, just though it was a good sentence to ponder. We are thrown by the use of the words 'who' and 'their.' These phrases are all correct.

The family is expecting their third child soon
who is expecting her third child soon
who are expecting their third child soon

I think 'is' is correct because family is always singular.

"is" is correct
I'll bet you a vowel, and raise you a consonant.
