Question how hard would it be for the administrator of this board.............

that on the front page of this website to have a random picture of members truck loaded rather than the once currently used? how hard would that be? i think it would be kinda neat. have your signature right under the pic. would we have to upload the pictures to a certain spot on this website? just was wondering.

That's a great IDEA! It all depends on how Steve made the random image script. I think I know how to do this in PHP but it requires a lot of code if the image names are different. But with numbered names like 343.jpg that would be extremely easy to do... (like 2 or 3 lines of PHP code but many more in Perl I think, I don't know Perl).

Just blabbing along, don't mind me But I will use that idea on my site... hehe

The most time consuming part would be taking all of the Owner's Gallery images and cropping and resizing them so they are all the same size. Unfortunately, even with the power of Debabelizer behind me, I do not have the time to do this.

Steve, I had no idea that your Mrs. was so involved in helping you with the site.

(Coincidently, I call my wife da'babe too.)

Unless I am missing something, what can be accomplished with her behind me?

Steve, what if you were to, rather then using pictures already in the gallery, ask people to send in an image that they'd like on the main page, specify EXACTLY the size the image needed to be, and put up only the pictures that people send in? That way, the people that have their pics on the main page will be the ones that regularly use the site, and want their truck to be known.

Matt,

That sounds like a good idea, but for the most part, people do not follow very simple instructions. I would still have to crop, optimize, etc. Take the Owner's Gallery, for instance. There are specific instructions on the type of file, the subject of the email, etc, but I would estimate less than 10% of the submission get it right. C'est la vie.

tell them if they don't get it right, they don't get their trucks on the main page, and they only get two tries to get it right . (see, a solution for everything!)

D'OH! Forgot about that! That's right editing every image would take a LONG time to do, trust me it would!

Matt! Not every person is able to crop an image. And to integrate such a thing on a page isn't easy when the images aren't the same size. It will mess with the table sizes and render the page unreadable

I think that the "Hot topics" thing is VERY cool, makes the front page more dynamic!!!

You could get a few of us to do the sizing and cropping work for you. All you gotta do is give us your requirements.

Cool

Well since my site is smaller and I need some things to do to learn programming I went and did it It does raise a problem: the page takes longer to load! It took me a long time to append this "mod" on a small site...

hehe http://www.cooltrucks.net

People have seen it done on F150world. What hadn't that boy Mr. Duke done? I'm sure that is why he was aking, since he saw it done on F150world. Pretty neat feature if ya ask me, makes ya feel like you are special to see your truck on the home page.
