MOST STOLEN AUTOS (not good)
I don't understand the significance of the Accord trim lines. The LX/EX aren't that much different that they should be considered two different cars. Those Hondas take up 14 positions on the list when there should be only 8. I'll bet Honda paid off somebody to get a favorable breakdown. If they were lumped together like the other makes the list would read 1 through 8, HONDA ACCORD.
Maybe the Camry would fall out of the top ten if it was broke down Deluxe and LS.
And the 97 F150 wouldn't have even made the top twentyfive if they had been counting them (Lariat, XLT, XL. Work Series) or even better, (Reg Cab, SuperCab, Long, Short, Flare)
But then, Toyota and Ford weren't passing money under the table like Honda was...

With apoligies to Raoul and others.
1. There are two vehicles that were stolen mostly for practical reasons. F150's and Caprices. Good solid transportation and they don't attract much attention.
2. Mustangs are stolen for passion. Can't afford one, always wanted one, got one for the night/weekend/week.
3. Rice Rockets are stolen for pretty much one reason only. Read: PARTS-PARTS-PARTS.
The demographics of the folk that buy these cars in the first place are a lot of first time owners (I'm talking second hand here) and they are prone to a lot of minor to major fender benders. As well, they like to upgrade their base vehicles to more luxurious ones (seats/stereos/engine stuff/sunroofs etc.) And, they don't want to pay retail for new stuff.
The Chop Shops are well aware of this, and I would be willing to bet if you could get the rest of the statistics, you would find that the recovery rate on F150's, Caprices and Mustangs is reasonably high, even if they are stripped a bit. The recovery rate on the Rice Rockets is probably very low to nil as they just vanish into the great parts beyond.
In other words, being first or tenth on the list is not a really good thing. It does not indicate an intense desire on the part of the perpetrator to drive the vehicle, they just want to part them out.

Waldo,
I am proud of the fact that the gooners prefer my truck to steal.
However, there are several remedies:
In the Summer time after I go to beddy-bye, if they choose to steal my truck they will have to get by an 11 foot Burmese python that resides on the front seat and has an attitude. If they can get by her, God bless 'em.
During the winter time I tell my mother-in-law to wait in the truck when she wants to visit. If they can get by her and her battle ax, then they deserve my truck!
The third remedy, if the accomplice has a partner, is a remote controlled "Mother-In-Law" ejection passenger seat that works up to a radius of three miles. When the driver sees his accomplice ejected out of the moon-roof and still can drive competently, then he's a better man than I am........!

Lotta old crates being stolen, it seems. 1987 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale takes the top spot in Indiana? Doesn't say much for the taste of thieves, or the demand for hot cars, in that State.
The newest vehicle on Waldo0506's list is that '97 F150. Guess that means if you don't want your vehicle stolen, whatever it is, best to own a '98 or newer one.

My third F-series (ordered new). The other two: '73 F-100 Custom, 240 cube 6, 3 on the tree, tan, "West Coast" mirrors, step bumper, knitted vinyl seat, AM radio; and '98 F-150 SC short-box XL, XLS package, Pacific Green, 4.2 5-speed, 3.55 ls, FM-cassette.
GREAT trucks!

How hard is it to defeat the anti-joy-ride feature of the Y2K (and similar) F-150's?

Thieves' preferences for certain makes depend on where they live, according to CCC's report. They're apt to poach vehicles that are popular in their state or region. For example, in Texas, nine of the top 10 stolen vehicles were pickup trucks. In the Midwest, thieves targeted American-made cars, with the 1995 Plymouth Neon taking the No. 1 spot in Michigan, and the 1987 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale taking the top spot in Indiana. On the East and West coasts, the most-stolen cars were the Japanese imports.
What's popular with consumers is usually popular with thieves," O'Brien says. "Parts are in demand, so theft could be a supply for that demand."

Any vehicle with a PATS key makes it a car jacking target. Anybody with a PATS key system should always drive with their doors locked and windows up. If the crook can't start it and can't tow it, the only way they'll drive it away is if they have the key. How do they get the key? They get it from you!
BTW, the "Club" only keeps the honest people from stealing a car. It only takes a few seconds with a hack saw blade to defeat the Club.

Personally I use the Desert Eagle anti-carjacking device. (Simmilar to the 45 ACP device).
Truthfully, there is nothing that will prevent a professional from stealing any vehicle they want. Most of the devices and security systems just help keep the honest people honest and prevent joyriding and pety theft.

If I could only teach my 135 pound Doberman to use a Desert Eagle then we would be talking. Hey Chris, just wondering....tell me its a .50!!!! All others just pale in comparison.

Okay - I see the point about The Club. Now I have another 2 questions: 1) what is the PATS key & 2) Am I correct in assuming that the Desert Eagle & Skyhawk are the kind of weapons I think they are? I am sorry to say that every once in awhile someone here posts things I don't quite get! LOL! Hey - it could be worse - you COULD be my neighbors & have to put up with me in person! ROFL!
Anyhow, thanks for the help!

Hmm - let's see - I just bought a '97 F150 4X4 to replace the Camry my Dad gave me (he just passed away so PLEASE be kind & don't say anything nasty - besides that car was great & I loved it!) so it looks like I either have great taste in vehicles, have lousy luck or have to hire an armed guard to watch my truck! I live on a dead end street & it's pretty much out of the way so anyone can do anything & get away with it! I don't like that!
I was offered "The Club" for free - any opinions on how well they work? I was thinking it might just be enough of a nuisance to deter someone from bothering the truck. I have the keyless entry/alarm feature but I hear they are easily deactivated. What do you folks suggest for extra security? I don't have a garage - I don't even have a full driveway - just a blacktop parking pad. If the weather is bitter enough I could pour water under the truck - it seems to freeze to the ground enough & the ice might make any wanna be thieves slide away! LOL!
Seriously - any security suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Cowlady, you are correct on your assumptions. The Desert Eagle is member of the 'pinto' family that has been aged at least six years, used mainly in commercial stews, it's not readily available off the shelf. Whatever you do stay away from the Skyhawk, these are derived from actual Mexican jumping beans and should only be handled by trained experts. If I'm not mistaken the Skyhawk brand is illegal in most states.
Not matter what 'bean' defense you go with, always remember 'safety first'. You could put out an eye, or worse be overcome by your own fumes. It has happened to me.
