Question More Power Without A/C?

Okay, now that it is finally gettting a little cooler here and I don't need to run the A/C constantly, I'm noticing more power and responsiveness from my truck and I like it.

I thought only the smaller engine cars got bogged down. A friend said he noticed no differences, anybody out there notice the difference?

Cool

When the compressor is on, any vehicle has power robbed to some extent. I can definately feel a difference in mine.

I can also feel a small loss with a/c on, but it is nothing compared to a 4cly Nissan I used to have. It felt like the power was cut in half with a/c on.

Performance gains could be the result of cooler air temps. There are only two settings (panel & floor) that do not run the a/c compressor. All others cause the compressor to cycle just like a/c.

so you are saying that defrost runs the a/c compressor?

Yep, compressor runs with defrost, it helps to keep the windows defogged. It makes a heck of a difference in the effectiveness of the defrost setting.

Yes. It has been that way for decades. Not only does it help with clearing the windows, it also keeps the compressor lubricated for longer life.
