This isn't going to change anything. All this did was give GM another 2 months to try and make it work under the Government's rules. If they didn't fire him, they wouldn't have gotten their cash for the next 2 months:
Several senior administration officials said GM will get enough government aid to restructure over the next 60 days, while Chrysler will get up to $6 billion and 30 days to complete an alliance with Italian automaker Fiat SpA. If Chrysler fails to reach a deal with Fiat or another partner, the government won't provide any further financing, likely sending the company into liquidation.
This is why they should have never been bailed out in the first place. Take a page out of the Ford Handbook of doing business. So let's say GM's gameplan isn't up to snuff with what our EXPERIENCED automaker of a Government says will make them successful. Let's also say the Chrysler can't reach a deal with Fiat inside of a month (which isn't likely seeing as how Nardelli pissed them off by announcing they would be responsbile for 35% of their government debt, which Fiat ademently denies), then what happens? They both declare bankruptcy? That means that all the funds they have received thus far will more than likely be donations to failed businesses, good luck recouping any of those funds.
"Hey Prolonging, this is Inevitable calling, maybe we should get together in Detroit and talk a little business, what do ya say?"

Now called Government Motors. Give them 1- 2 years (if that much) of running GM and Chrysler, and there will not be a GM and Chrysler. We will be down to the Big One as far as domestic car manufacturers. I am so glad Ford told them to take a hike on the bailout money, and hope it can stay that way.
Excerpt from Obama's taking about the move with GM and Chrysler.
If you need warranty work with GM and Chrysler, you are screwed now.

It is my hope that the steps I am announcing today will go a long way towards answering many of the questions people may have about the future of GM and Chrysler. But just in case there are still nagging doubts, let me say it as plainly as I can -- if you buy a car from Chrysler or General Motors, you will be able to get your car serviced and repaired, just like always. Your warrantee will be safe.
In fact, it will be safer than it's ever been. Because starting today, the United States government will stand behind your warrantee.
