cable tv rant!

so, i have a nice 46" lcd tv capable of getting digital signals and HD as well......the lovely cable company (rcn), advertises free HD channels with the basic cable lineup. All was well and good, until the channels starting scrambling! WTF!!!! I emailed and was told i needed a cable box (which is about 17.00 a month for HD. I said what part of FREE is 17.00 a month!???
I do not even watch much in the summer at all with camping and sitting out in the back yard till after dark. i really don't want to pay 80 plus a month for watching tv! we need to start a grass routes movement to get this pricing inline. i have 48 music channels that i could give a rats you know about! i like comcast sportsnet hd, fox hd, hgtv hd for the wife etc. anyone know of something better! i have had it!

Jim

get a TV tuner for your PC/Mac and hook up your computer to your tv via DVI-HDMI convertor....works like a charm!

Only $6 a month for me for HD. And it all in the words. They technically dont "charge" you for the HD service, they charge the "rental" fee on the box, therefore they can, will, and do say the service is free because you are paying for the box.

which sat system do you use? was looking at direct tv but in getting the hd channels and dvr it will end up, after the 1st year, about the same as cable is now price wise. in trying to decifer the info on the site it says for most options that for 10 bucks you can get hd, or pay a little more up front for more channels at about the same price. either way it is getting out of control!

We just recently switched to FIOS and haven't looked back. The picture is great, internet is fast, and customer service in wayyyyy better then cable.

We had communistcast for a while, and our HD channels would freeze, On Demand never worked, and the internet would work for about 2 hours a day. It was a nightmare. They kept swearing they fixed it, then would try to charge us for fixing a problem on their end. It got to the point where my we just told them to ******* off and not come back.

If it started scrambling all of a sudden, go check the cable box on the side of the house because they might have installed a filter on the coax cable. Take that thing out and you'll have HD again. It's a cheap trick to force people to buy their stuff.

how is satellite the future when you get a storm of have trees in the way your picture gets all messed up . Unless they can make sat signal that will never get messed up from from weather then thats not the future. I have verizon vios witch is fiber optic strait to your house. That is more reliable. If they can get it to were fiber replaces coaxial in the home too then that would be the future. Sat sucks.
