Question need a primer on ESP's

I need a primer on ESP's. Of course "consumer retorts" and other "consumer advocates" say not to buy them as they are a waste of money. I plan on keeping my new truck about 5 years and put about 20,000 miles a year on it.

I know prices on the esp's are negotible. I have read here some of you have bought them before your 3yr/36mi origional warranty is up.

1) can you buy a ford esp for a vehicle that is about to go out of the origional warranty? What about an aftermarket warranty plan?

2) Is the cost for the esp higher if you buy a ford esp before the origional warranty runs out, or is it cheaper to buy it with the new truck? What about an aftermarket plan?

3) If you choose to buy the ford esp later, do you have to buy it at the origional dlr?

4) I know you can get a quote on a ford esp on-line. How much less were you able to get one from a dlr than what the on-line quote was??

5) how much less was the dlr willing to knock off their esp offer price?? I have seen estimates of 40-60%. And, did you get a Ford ESP or a third-party plan??

thanks for you info--

I used to do warranty booking for Ford in Tulsa. I have seen the posts about buying the warranties online. You can go back to the dealer you bought the truck through, IF, you are the original owner. I have been told by the Finance dept., that is can actually be cheaper to buy it now before the base warranty expires, than when you purchased the vehicle. It, of course, depends on which plan you choose to purchase. BUT, keep in mind, Ford ESP, MAY make you go through a used car inspection, at the dealership, which could run you about 1 1/2 to 2 hour ck out time.

I, personnaly would go with a Ford ESP. Simply because if you go with an "off-brand", you might be required to pay for the repair first and then get reimbursed. AND, in the Ford ESP it clearly states what it will and won't pay for without having to playing guessing games with the service department if it comes time for a repair. Some of the off-brands won't pay for any gaskets, seal, fluids or other small but important items.

Hey, GREAT!!! another okie!!! My wife is from enid and we will be there during the holidays. Found a few other okies on this site, wouldnt be great to have an F150online.com meet in okla???

I MIGHT buy a new truck while we are there, have not found anything I really like here. The dlr there in enid, steven ford, sounds reasonable and has a huge selection.

Thanks for the info, luvthemfordslady. You said it may be cheaper to buy the esp before the base warr expires rather than buy the extended when purchasing the vehicle new?? Hummm, wonder what is up with that???

I don't understand the price difference either. I have heard of the price being as much as $300-400 lower. They don't "advertise" or promote the purchase of the warranties this way because the salesman won't be getting their spiff bonuses. They make so much profit off of these. That may be the reason you can find them cheaper online.

I have been pushing this site to all of the f150 drivers at work. Anytime someone tells me they have a truck, I recommend this site. I don't see alot of "Okies" on here.

I hope that you can use this info to get your warranty. And hope everyone has a Happy Holiday.
