As a police officer, when someone gets out of the car without me telling them to, they are going to be met with the barrel end of my Sig with a laser on them. I don't care where they are. Who is to say that because they were going to the hospital, they aren't gang members who got shot? Or maybe they were burglarizing a home and the owner shot them? Don't give me that common sense bull crap, until you do my job you have no right to tell me what I did was/is right or wrong or how I should have handled the situation. You are confronted by people every day that have weapons and will kill you to not go to jail.

Let me ask a simple question and if anyone can answer "yes" to this then you can criticize all you want.....How many of you have literally fought for your life against someone trying to grab your gun and kill you so they don't have to go to prison?

That Cop was stupid plane and simple. You can't tell me they don't deal with people under duress all the time. This was an emergency situation for that family, the driver cautiously ran a red light.

I can tell you this, I took my mother in law to the hospital in El Paso. I believe she was having a heart attack and I ran about 6 Red lights, then I pulled up and the stupid pig working security inside the hospital tried to give me grief for getting agitated when they wouldn't give her emergency treat---after I raised my voice enough finally someone came out seeing she was about to die.

I wouldn't want a cops job to say the least. But at least have a little sense.

Im not a Cop hater. But seriously. They were at the dang hospital. The car was right there, and the relatives went inside the building. If the officer was worried about him running, its not like he didnt have the car, or all the relatives sitting in the building to tell him who the runner was. I know, he should have calmly told the officer what was going on. He was a little excited. It would have probably moved along faster if he would have been calm about it. But he freaked out, which I can kind of understand because of precious time, but it just made things that much longer. But I think the officer should have just let him go in, and he follow him in there and wait for him. He told the cop his business at the hospital.

It's always nice to have someone who knows though. People don't realize what it's like to know that you may not go home at the end of your shift.

I agree that the cops initial actions were okay. But after the other police officer, two nurses, everything came out. I think they had the flashers on too. He should have let him go. Or at least followed him into the hospital. Or hell even called and found out. Somethings should have handled way differently. Most of the cops I know start a traffic stop by asking "are you in an emergency situation".

This is in the new`s because he`s a pro football player, im sure it has nothing to do with his color. Also he didnt just blow the light he stopped and then went. When the nurse came out the officer was also writing the ticket, from what I understand they cant just stop writing after they started. I personaly wouldnt have given him a ticket but im sure once it gets to court the officer will explain to the judge what happen and he will be let off. Just my 2 cents.

Nope, not a cop- hater---as a matter of fact several of my former students are policemen---and one is an Ohio State Highway Patrolman. I teach with an ex-cop. Even he said that it was over the line---that the cop had other options to employ. I respect the heck out of cops...but this one made a bad choice, and could have/should have done things differently.

You are not expected to make everybody happy---but you are expected to do your job---and, you probably have been taught when and where a citation is warranted and when one is not, right? There are delicate situations that have to be handled delicately---not in a heavy handed manner. This guy didn't have the tact he should have had.

I can see the cop being a hardass in the ghetto - but in front of the hospital in Plano? Isn't that a relatively peaceful upscale suburb?

I personally think it;s an outrage that people are outraged.
The cop did his job, plain and simple. I don't give a darn, the guy could have been calmer and explained and things may have gone more smoothly, but to blame the cop? Please, if this was someone who was a murderer (the cop didn't know anything about the guy) and the cop had just let him go, there would also be outrage. Darned if ya do, darned if ya don't on this one, but the cop got a raw deal for doing his job.
