dodge durango
the horse business is being good to us and it's time for a new (97 & up) car. It's Expedition vs Durango. The Expy's seem like too much weight and the 5.4L would be a must. I like the size and styling of the Durango and the price is right. I've already looked at Edmunds.com and the only downside I can see about them is poor crash rating.
Does anybody here own one or atleast used too?

I've heard those things are junk. Probably the worst vehicle Chrysler sells. Some of my friends drive tow trucks and they tow Durangos constantly. I'd stay clear of it. I'd go for the Expy or *gasp* a Tahoe.

If the Expedition weight/hp ratio concerns you, consider the Navigator. Same weight but 40 extra ponies.
Strip the seats out, get a chip from Mike, slap on some slicks and go chase some Lightnings

I think the Durango has the WORST gas mileage in the SUV class!!!!!
I would get a Grand Cherokee! check out what they can do

Raoul- The Nav. is several hundred pounds heavier than an X because of the extra "cushy" features and bonus sound-proofing.
Pony- Next time you get back to T-town, give me a call and I'll try to have my friend bring his R/T? for you to drive. Michele and I found the Dodge to be quite uncomfortable vs the Expedition.

The Durango, like all Dodge/Chrysler vehicles, are what we call, "throw aways". Once you get done with them, throw them away, they are junk in a very short while. My wife drives a '99 GMC Yukon, It's only got 16,000 miles and we have some major probs that can't be fixed by the dealer. A drive line harmonic vibration at 50 to 60 MPH. And the front wheel shimmies when ever it wants!!! Go with the Expidition!!
Okay, who wants to drive an Excursion around downtown Tulsa, manuever it around in a parking garage, and make 88 mile round trips everday?! not my mom, she's already doing it in a F350 crew cab dually diesel. We are not a taxi service so how many people we can fit in a car is not an issue.
I already read that mpg was a downside on the durango, but I know that some of you guys only get ~12mpg with the 5.4L in trucks - does it really get worse than that?
I've already been looking at expy's and a used durango is more affordable, but then again crap could equal low resale value. But...we would like a 98 Mark 8 LSC and they have a low resale value (atleast in OK) and I doubt it's a crappy car.
but if no one here has had atleast one good experience with a durango then I guess we'll go with the expy. I've already tried to talk her into an F150 SC or supercrew, but it's either an SUV or continental for her.

I doubt that the new vehicle will get anything aftermarket. maybe rims. no lifts or offroad lights. no offroading. this will be a daily driver. plus i would hate for $ attention to be drawn away from my truck.
I would definitely dodge the Durango. hehe. They are cool looking though and seem to be just the right size. What about the new Explorer's coming out? (saw something on Motor Trend TV about them). I guess if you want to seat a whole bunch of people though, you're just gonna have to have a hard time parking.
