My new computer, so I can come here faster!
Hi all!
I'm about to order an upgrade for my system! I want to buy an AMD Thunderbird 900Mhz and an Abit K-7 motherboard!
Right now my little Celeron 300Mhz does not cut it! I have so many jobs to do and I hate to sit and watch a freaking progress bar slowly climb to 100%. I calculated that I will save 3 hours per every 8 hours of work I do! So that justifies the cost!
Have you had any problems with an AMD! I'm not much of a gamer! I use Windows 2000 Pro with; photoshop, illustrator, quarkxpress, indesign, dreamweaver, corel, solidworks 2000 and some other design software...
I don't want an Intel becuase of the price... So far I heard only good things about AMD! I know that when they started out they had some problems with software!
Thanks
Steve

Which motherboard is it the KT7, KT7RAID, OR THE KA7. I have the KT7RAID and love it. Right now I have a Duron 600 overclocked@ 1020Mhz and I can tell you it's a whole lot faster than my old Amd K6-2 450. I can really tell the difference when ripping audio tracks and encoding them to MP3. I also run Photoshop 6.0, alot of games and everything works wonderfully. But I have never had a problem with it yet, just nothing but praise.
Computer Specs:
Abit KT7 Raid
Duron 600@1020Mhz

The motherboard selection is kind of weak for the Athlons, but has gotten much better since it was intorduced. I don't think you can beat a Athlon system for the money. There is a new chipset out for the Athlon, you may want one of those mainboards instead, the K-7 is based the first generation chipset. Get lots of RAM. It's sooo cheap right now. 256MB is a good amount. Good luck.
