Changing trailer lights to LED

I have been wanting to do this for a bit now.

I have a questions

For the brake lights/blinkers do I need to doing anything to them? I remember hearing something about the voltage change that LEDS need an resistor or something for the lights that act as blinkers/brake lights.

Thanks

I installed LED brake and turns and two LED fender marker lights on my trailer and did nothing special. They have been on for 2 years with no issues. The brake/turn came from a buddy of mine who does semi modding. They're 15" long and 1" tall and have 15 LED's each. The fender lights are single LED's. They have been the most dependable trailer lights I have ever had (knock on wood ).

if you put LED's on your truck for turn signals, they will blink fast because they think a bulb is burned out.... The draw of LEDS are a lot less then incandescents, and the relay senses that... replace with a different relay and you'd be fine...

Your right but he's talking about his trailer. No need for relays.

you're 100% right... i did not make that clear, my apologies. That is for truck lights only, trailer lights are extra and since every trailer has different light configs, they all work, stock, or LED.

It's actually good you said that. I Just changed my map, dome, cargo and plate lights to led (looks great). And was thinking about the brakes and reverse lights too.

Anyone know of where to get trailer LEDS cheap?

Cheapest I saw was from superbrightleds.com 5.50 for each marker and 20.00 each for brake.

Depending on what trailer you have, is if you go with bulbs, or entire new lights.

Usually LED light heads are built to have LEDs behind them, where replacing the 3157 type bulb with the LED 3157 bulb, you can have reflector problems with this, and need to look at the ones that have LEDs all the way around the bulb ( which cost a bit more ).

Take a google for trailer LEDs and you can find from Northern Industrial supply, to other online places that make replacement light heads. The ones for the boat trailer or stake bed, are nice replacement light heads.

etrailer.com has replacement light heads for enclosed trailers as well.

another really good place to look at LED trailer lights is any larger Truck Stop they always have alot of that stuff and plenty of choices too.

Sorry to hear that, family issues like this are the worst.
At least as a stranger, it has little or no impact on family reunions.
