Post MPG Survey

I'm here once again on assignment. I'm doing another project for my stat class. This time I am comparing the change in MPG before and after any performance mods, to the amount of money spent on those mods. So what I need is the MPG you got when you first received your truck, the MPG you get now after any mods, if any, and the total amount of money you spent on all those performance mods. Also, in case you're wondering, the last survey of owners ages in still under construction. Thanks for any and all help.

Boy, I thought my truck sucked! Before break in, I was getting about 12.5mpg(city). After break in I was getting just over 13mpg(city and maybe 15mpg(highway). Installed a K&N, and it increased to about 14.5mpg(city) and 15.5-16mpg(highway). With my 33's, I might have dropped a max of .5mpg, but I can easily make it up on lightening the foot.

Thumbs up

Fuel milage is from 10-22mpg. I added the superchip at 500 miles on the engine and it did improve milage by about 2mpg. When I tow my 30'travel trailer I get between 10-14mpg. This last trip I added a Turbo Brake ($500) and a can of fuel additive ($5). Milage stayed the same but the engine ran smoother. I get an ave of 20mpg around town and not towing. Less if I have my foot into it. More if I drive like grandma. The turbo brake isn't supposed to change your fuel milage, just save on the wear and tear of your brakes. Oh, and help you stop, of course.

I get between 11 and 15, it all depends on where I'm driving. Around town with no highway it's about 12, if I do mostly highway it almost at 15.

------------------
black 97' x-cab 4x4, 5 speed 4.6, black westin nerf bars, pilot ground searchers, borla SS split rear exhaust, K&N genII, bosch +4 plugs, superchip, flexalite electric fan, v-tech oval side window covers, IAS shocks

premier 720, pioneer 6cd changer, 12 premier sub, premier componets, 2 soso amps

still to come: new spark plug wires, new rims and tires, maybe a supercharger eventually.

Good luck on your stats for class.

Bought mine in September, 2000. Around town I drive like an old woman, on the road usually around 70-75.

18.9 Highway
16.2 Combo Highway/City
14.3 City only

Only mods so far are a Spray in Bedliner with no noticable change in mileage. Spent $310 on the bedliner.

I think I will be adding the K&N Air Filter soon. Also plan on doing the complete Zaino Brothers treatment which could had some mileage boost.

I have noticed an almost 2 mpg increase on highway driving with the tailgate down.

Good luck!

Cool

I have been keepin track of my mileage for 4 years, from my last F150 to this one. I am gettin 11mpg usally. But have been at 9.5 a few times. Best I ever got with this truck was 14.5 and went 301 miles on a tank. Now, it's 235 at best. I know the bigger tires throw everything off a tad, but it's still bad. Last few months my gas bill has been right at around $500. And I drove about 3,200 miles in September and this month will probably be the same. I have already put on 2,500 miles since Oct 1st. $5000 a year in gas, geez, I know I got the Mobil Speed Pass for a reason I know I have a lead foot, but that is how you drive when you got a V8. If I wanted to be a poke I would've stayed with my last truck, with the 4.2.
