Post Hi, I'm new here!

I've driven Ford's for quite a few years, and a lot of F150's that were company trucks. I picked up my own new baby yesterday. It's a 2001 XLT Supercab, off road 4X4, 5.4L, Black. I'm a Mustang owner/enthusiast also, thus the strange handle for this board! This looks like a cool site.

Does anyone here have an opinion on the best time to switch to synthetic oil? I'm thinking about running the conventional to 3,000 or 6,000 miles to help seat the rings, and then switch.

Welcome ponykarlarry. Good thing you said your name is strange, because I was just thinking that, mine being pretty ordinary and all.
Anyway, some say that they change over at the first oil change and others wait till around 10k I think. Don't ask your Dealer because they are not allowed to recomend you use anything but motocraft. Do use 5W30 (if manual says so for the 2001) though, your warrenty may depend on it.

You from Mi? If you want to meet some of us, we have a few things going on this weekend. The H.P.Freak himself (and a few others) will be going to Milan and some of us are going on a fall color Tour on Sunday. If you go to either of these, I can put pics of your Truck on the website. Check out our MESSAGE BOARD for more info.

Welcome PKL.

Opinions? Yes...I have one. Do it at 3K. Seating rings is no longer realy much of a problem with the newer boring technologies but why waste good oil. But stick to the Ford change interval at 3K or 5K for that ever popular 36/36 period. My opinion, but also stolen from many others with much more knowledge than I.

Oh, and by the way, beware of a guy named Raoul.

Some opinions.

What ever you go with, stick to it. Do not switch from synthetic back to regular oil.

An F150 takes 6 quarts of oil. I personally do not think that you get much benefit from synthetic oils. I stick with Castrol GTX and change it often.
