GENEVA—After promising to “push the reset button” on relations with Moscow, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton planned to present Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with a light-hearted gift at their talks here Friday night to symbolize the Obama administration’s desire for a new beginning in the relationship.

It didn’t quite work out as she planned.

She handed him a palm-sized box wrapped with a bow. Lavrov opened it and pulled out the gift—a red plastic button on a black base with a Russian word “peregruzka” printed on top.

“We worked hard to get the right Russian word. Do you think we got it?” Clinton said as reporters, allowed in to observe the first few minutes of the meeting, watched.

“You got it wrong,” Lavrov said, to Clinton’s clear surprise. Instead of "reset," he said the word on the box meant “overcharge.”

The funny thing is that stupid red button probably cost a couple grand after all the beaurocracy that went into it. All they really needed was a Russian/Eglish dictionary for about 8 bucks. It's amazing how the country hasn't imploded with all the idiots we have running the show.

 

Is that the easy button staples uses?

For those that had not heard about it, when the PM of our closest ally just visisted, Obama gave him 25 DVDs. The PM gave Obama some very well thought gifts.

 

Although Russian is a totally different alphabet, I cannot believe we would translate the word reset incorrectly. Russians (and most of the world) already believe we are self centered and only care about what happens here. And having our government misspell that almost clarifies it. Yes it was a small mistake, but still sucked.

 

And the thing is, they may not even play on the PMs dvd player due to region coding!

 

Can you imagine how the media would've reacted had Bush given the PM of England some DVD's? LOL. Shows the hypocrisy in the media.

 

Is there any confusion as to why the rest of the World loves the Left in charge of the US? It's like fielding a High School glee club, in place of the football team, for the State championship game.

 

Seems I was right. The DVDs given to the PM only work in North America.
