I guess I should elaborate... I'm not chroming pieces of my dash, I replacing the 12v cig lighter panel with this:

I need to get it cleaned up and ready for chrome, I just don't know what grit I stop with.

The FX4 will be back lit.

what ever the finish looks like when you send it to them is what it waill look like when you get it back. I would use up to 600 grit to 1000grit, you can get it to look like a mirror with a little bit of work.

I just wasn't sure if the chrome hides or fills minor pits, or if I had to have it totally smooth.

Thanks!

As far as I know, you will want the chrome as smooth as can be - it won't hide imperfections so make sure it's perfect. That should look cool what you are doing - please post pics when done

Will do. Those pics are the plate right after I got them, and just threw a little vinyl behind to see what it could look like. I actually got 2, just in case I >F< one up.

Why do you want to sand it? Are you doing the chrome yourself or is a shop going to dip it?

If a shop is going to do it, they'll do the finish sanding and get it ready. They'll copper plate it, nickel plate it and then the better shops will triple plate the chrome.
