Question General Maintenance?

lol.. this is gonna sound like a stupid question.. but what sort of maintenance do you guys do for your truck, and how often?

I get my oil changed with Motorcraft Synthetic blend about every 3000 miles, clean my AF1 filter every oil change, rotated my tires at 5000 miles, check and maintain the fluids about once every 2-3 months, fix tire air pressure bout 3 times a year, wash the truck everry 1-2 weeks, wax twice a year..

I do all the simple stuff aside from changing my oil.. it's simple enough to just drop it off for the dealer.. costs about $25, and they supposedly top off the rest of my fluids.

Honestly, I only put about 6000 miles a year on my truck right now, most of my driving is within city limits.. so is there any other sort of general maintenance I need to take care of? Am I missing something?

Well, I'm not a mathematician, but, he has a 2008 truck and he drives it less than 6,000 miles a year (as stated in his post). Assuming he got his truck in 2007 brand new, I'm going to guess that it has under 15,000 miles on it.

On my diesel, I change my oil every 5K and fuel filter every 15K. Check and change fluids as necessary. Only fluid I haven't replaced in my truck since I've owned it is the coolant... Which will be done soon.

I change oil every 7500 miles with analysis. I change ATF every 35,000 miles. I run a dose of Auto-Rx thru it at 75,000 miles (engine and transmission) to clean it back to near factory and recondition the seals. Change fuel filter every 35,000 with the transmission ATF. Air filters every 20,000 miles. PCV at every 75,000 (Motorcraft only). Repack wheel bearings every 40,000. When it hits 100,000 miles I'll change the axle fluid. Plugs every 75,000 and I'll change the COPS at 100,000. 2004 4.6 SCrew w/87,000 miles

All the standard maintenance, including oil changes I do myself. I will be taking it in when it hits 30k (another 6k). I do however check my tire pressure way more often than you. About once a week or two weeks.

I'd really like to start cleaning the engine bay about once a month or so. Truck sees quite a bit of dusty environments at motocross tracks. But for some reason I'm leery about it.

if your truck sees any off-road use, there are other maintanence issues to consider as well. if the axles ever are submerged, the differentials' fluids have to be changed immediately, for example.

Any of you guys change the power steering fluid or the brake fluid? I've noticed that the dealers are really starting to push these services, but am not sure how much merit there is to them beyond a "money grab" for the service department......???

i have a 97 f150,4.6 5 speed, I have over 268,XXX and it runs strong. I change the oil every 5000-6000 miles (most times), tranny fluid every 100k, fuel filter at 120k. Rotate tires at 6000k, changed differential fluids 150k, Still on OEM battery, clutch, antifreeze, power steering fluid. You will be fine trust me.
