Post Does anyone use the new chat?

I used to drop by the chatroom here once in a while before it was changed to the new format (which I don't particularly care for...sorry Steve.) Now, I will pull up the chat once every week or two and I never see anyone there. This is usually done at various times of the day, so I don't believe that it is the timing that is all wrong. Is there a new place that everyone is going that is not located on this site? It seems unfortunate to me that this aspect of the website has failed. I was once able to communicate to other members of this community, who are friendly and interesting people, in a realtime setting. Now I have to hit the message boards to see if these people are still around.

So, does anyone use the new chat?

I used to use this one but I can't access it from work so I am not there at all anymore. I sometimes goto anthensometoo's site and check in.

If you used the old chat room you know how often I was there.... I still go by the new room hoping that someone will be there. Last night I sat alone in the room from 8:00-8:30pm Pacific time without anyone even peeking in - and that's on a Thursday night that used to be crazy with all the people in the room! Out of curiosity I looked at the F150online page hit statistics. There were less hits on the chatroom page in June than there was the previous months - at a time when all other page counts are climbing.

Steve, any chance of backing out of the chatroom upgrade or trying something different?

As I stated a few times in the past, nope.

The older chat, which was the most efficient of it kind, put way too much strain on the server. The alternative to no chat room was going with a Java-based solution.

After two or three months of public and private testing and requests for comments, there were only two (including your's Tom). I made the financial investment in the new chat server, so that is what we now use for chat.

Well, I would join you guys in the chat room, but it won't even let me in. It either says, "Unable to connect: *The VolanoChat server is full. Please try again later.
*The VolanoChat server is temporarily down for maintenance. Please try again later.
*You are trying to connect from behind a firewall. Please contact your network administrator for configuring a SOCKS proxy." I am trying to do this at work. We are logged on as a network. The third reason seems to be the closest. I'd be there as fast as a lightning if I could.

Angry

I tried to log in chatroom.
I couldn't get in,it was forbidden to acces the chat on this server.

Why is that???

Usually ,as soon as I am online I log in. 08.00 pm my time, about 02.00 pm your time.
Recently i quit with that.I noticed that new log ins disappear almost the same moment as they appear.I don't know why, maybe they don't like europeans.I prefer the old chatroom format.

Question

Does anyone here use Yahoo! messenger?
Someone could start a topic in conversations or messenge someone directly.
Its free and doesn't use steve's server bandwidth

Preyhunter, F150Europe, and others..

I spend more time in Andthensometoo's chat room than here because it seems to get more use since the change here. You will find many familiar people in her chat room.

I understand Steve's reason for the change , but also prefer the old room.

That aside, this is still the best site around! Congrats On the #60 rating Steve, you earned it!!

Cool

I have an idea why dont we start a chat night like on thursday nights when it used to be packed in there. All we need now is a time and that way we can sort of keep in touch like we used to do. Even though we dont like the chat room we can still make a point of using it. What do yall think.

Unhappy

I have yet to find a single person in the chat room.
Maybe a F150online messenger is in order?
Have you considered digichat?
Thats what www.sounddomain.com uses and it seems to work well.

Thumbs up

OK folks, this Thursday night, I will fore-go Smackdown and instead tune into F150's chat room. I very much enjoyed the old chat and haven't even used the new one yet. So don't you all laugh if it looks like I'm standing on my head in there The rest of you all, please drop by too so I won't feel like some fool idiot. Lets say 9pm EST.

Cool

Count me in Tina,
Sounds like a good idea to set a time so everyone knows where to go. I can't get Smack Down on Direct TV so I'll be there. Anyone else??

We have only been able to access it once since the change (IE 5.5), & we're not behind a firewall.

I think the one on f150world.com is cool.
If we only could have that one here.
Don,t know if it is fast or not with many users logged in.But it looks cool.
Many options there.
