aug 1, sounds good to me. been trying to slow down a little at a time lately. just skipping normal smoke breaks or changing the times so it becomes less of a habit. seems to help sometimes i even forget to go have one.

as for rewards: those rims and tires sure look good.

Just imagine. If you quit, think about how soon you'll be able to afford that SuperChip (or other aftermarket goodie) you always wanted! What about all that extra gas money to feed your F-150!

Ok. Fess-up time. Guess I'll hit that August 1 date with you guys, because slipping up just started me all over again. This is SO TOUGH!!! But I'm glad you guys are all planning it together, the group thing is bound to be easier than being all alone in it. E-groups is a GREAT idea, I am on two other mailing lists with them already. But I think we should also try to keep the post alive, in case other people see it and get the idea to join in.

Tamster

PS...I think what I will do with the money I save is save for the down payment on a truck. DAVENSA spent two days putting a new a/c system in my POS Chevy Cavalier, now this week it is having transmission problems and making this horrible clacking sound under the hood. AAARRRRGGGG!!!!!

TamsHerOwnBoss@aol.com

My F-150 looks suspiciously like a little green Chevy Cavalier. Not lifted, not lowered, no snug-top or nerf bars. Two F-150Online stickers on the back glass, and Texas Plates that read "TAMSTR"...Dave says she'll be a truck when she grows up.

Thumbs up

seacrow - possably the best site ever !!!! - I plus (we) sig/nif/othr. Off weed for 3 months. Went boating last wknnd - purchase a package - 3 pkgs later, we say NO MORE !!!. We have been on Zyaban, etc for 2 mos. WE WANT TO STOP !!! We were on zyaban last year, and quite for 6 months. Then started (small) amount again.
I no longer have to take money out of bank every day, when I don't smoke.
We vowed last spring - 1 - never smoke in house. - never have. 2 - never smoke in new truck, or car. OK - not done. Never smoke in cabin of new boat. - OK never done, but - buy odd package & smoke outside house, outside trailer, outside truck, & outside cabin on boat. I have had 2 heart attacks, or as Billy Joel says Heart atack, tack, tack, tack, tack. & my enameratta (italian for loved one)(sp) says I have to stop. She has bad chest probs. ( not regarding size)
What we need to do is keep together - one who has NOT SMOKED cannot realize the draw to the weed. I am 66 years young - I want to tour all over USA & Canada, while i can & still appreciate the wonders of our land.
LETS KEEP THIS THREAD GOING !!!!
I'll Sign myself - addicted, trying to stop.

Hmmmmm.....48 hours or so remaining before August 1st.

This thread was created to bring those who want to end their nicotine addiction together. From what I see, there's not many people willing to do what I'm about to do --> QUIT smoking and END the addiction on August 1st.

Thanks for those above who have given their support and experiences.

August 1st is the date some of us have, however, chosen to become smoke-free forever.

August 1st will now be referred to as SFF-Day instead of "D-Day." SFF-Day stands for "SMOKE-FREE FOREVER DAY."

Yes, there is an email option available to those who still want to end their nicotine addiction on August 1st. Just look in the posts above and email either myself or seacrow...

Those who have chosen to read this thread this far know who you are and what you want to do Just join us and never smoke again...

Hi Tamster;

Good idea for the "sticker."

I suggest that those stickers *only* be allowed to be displayed by those who can offer a *verified* CO2 breath test

Ciao, Tamster

Terry you are not alone, I did not make the cut-off. When I quit a few weeks ago, the first few days were unbearable, I just cried and cried, and I couldn't stop. You know, that thing where you get upset, so you light up, and it hurts a little less?? Well, I have sort of hit rock bottom, and I just don't think I could bear crying like that another day right now. I have signed up for my company insurance, and as soon as next week I can get full prescriptions of Zyban (which is a miracle anti-depressant, I loved it) and my Nicotrol inhaler, which made the cravings bearable but I ran out. Two weeks on Zyban, and a box of inhaler cartridges, and I will be okay to swear off. But without anything to help, OR cigarettes, I am a basket case!!

Hi wildchild! I'm still here and on Day 3 of my quitting process. I began August 1st It sounds like you're doing well! Keep up the good work and don't digress.

Hi Tamster! Believe me, I understand your plight. This addiction is very deeply seated within us. I wish you well. I really do.

I began Day 1 smoke-free and remained so til 5pm. Then I smoked a few cigs and went to bed at 10pm.

Day 2 was easier to be smoke-free than Day 1. So, I figured I'd make a mod to the "cold turkey" approach I had planned on taking: I'll remain smoke-free each day forward for one more hour each day. Day 2, I didn't allow myself to smoke til 6pm. Then I went to bed at 10pm.

Day 3 is getting easier to remain smoke-free throughout the course of the day. Of course the urges are still there, but they are subsiding. I am able to to make it through the day easier. Today, I won't smoke til 7pm and I'll go to bed at 10pm.

Tomorrow, I'll remain smoke-free til 8pm. Pretty soon, I won't have the "need" for nicotine any longer. I look forward to having a totally smoke-free day in the near future. Perhaps Saturday or Sunday. From that point on, I'll remain smoke-free forever and I'll NEVER ever touch another tobacco product again.

The 2 most important issues I see as I battle this addiction are:

1. You must want to quit. Without wanting to quit, anyone who has any type of addiction is doomed to carry the ball-and-chain around with them til they want to finally end the addiction.

2. Smokers are addicted to a drug, namely NICOTINE. Unless you can lock yourself up in some sort of prison and do nothing more than battle the withdrawls, it's very difficult to quit cold turkey. I can't do that. I have to be able to function in my day-to-day life. I have a job to perform, a home to keep up and a family life too. The way I see it, a gradual lessening of NICOTINE exposure with INCREASED exposure to smoke-free time is a very effective method for quitting.

Hey, what can I say? It seems to be working for me...

Tamster;

Btw, what you just posted above is the reason I don't agree with using prescription or over-the-counter NICOTINE replacements.

With those "replacements," you're still bombarding your body with the drug NICOTINE throughout the course of the day. NICOTINE is what we are addicted to.

The best way (and it is a proven way) to get off any DRUG addiction is to lessen the body's exposure to the drug. I'm not talking about a DECREASE in the amount of each DOSE of the drug as the prescription and over-the-counter stuff provides.

I'm saying that the ELAPSED TIME each day that the body CANNOT be exposed to any DRUG, and in this case it's NICOTINE, is the best way to successfully combat any addiction.

In other words, if when you awaken each day you grab a cig, just don't do that ever again. Try making it smoke-free 30 minutes or an hour and then smoke the rest of the day. Day 2, do the same but increase the amount of "smoke-free time" you spend each and every morning before you light up. And so on...

Stay with that program of increasing the amount of smoke-free time each day til you can finally have a totally smoke-free day. From there, NEVER touch tobacco EVER.

Take care...
