I am looking for a laptop and do not have a clue what to get. It is for my wife and she will be using it for internet, some school work, no games. I am looking to spend up to 800.00

Ive got a Toshiba i like it alot have had it over 3 years no problems.

Ive heard and seen alot of problems with HP just fyi

 

I have a 5 year old Toshiba Satellite laptop and it has never let me down. I paid about 800 for it and paid another 300 for XP Professional. No matter which computer you buy in that price range you are going to have to pay a license fee to get the full version of the Microsoft programs.

My sister is on her second Toshiba, which are very nice. I have a compaq, but if I had a choice id get a HP.

 

I just picked up an ASUS 900HA. $300. It's a little bitty thing but I love it so far.

 

my sister has a dell, its pretty nice, i think it was a tad over $800 including new micosoft office software. she got it at bestbuy

x2 for looking on newegg.com. They are usually the cheapest and always have great customer service.

I would suggest looking at HP's that are loaded with Windows XP. Laptops are notorious for running slow and crashing when the computer is running Vista, and is matched with a weak processor.
