Post Firefighters Here?

Just wondering if there are any Firefighters here on F150online...?

25 year veteran here. Retired with a bum knee.

Would like to hear from those who know what I do about the trade. I miss it so much.

Cool

I am a volunteer firefighter. I quit my station recently now that I am out of district at my new house. I may get on the department in my new fire district. It pays $100/shift and I am used to getting $6 a call. I can do as many shifts as I want. I am also a certified fire appartus engineer, a first responder and went halfway through our local fire academy before an unfortunate incident forced me to quit.

Actually this morning I had breakfast at a restaurant and an elderly man started choking and coughing. His wife was trying to do the Heimlich(sp?) I stopped her from breaking her husbands ribs. He had rales and shallow respirations. I think the guy had CHF and did not know it. He would not go to the hospital or doctor. Poor guy. He finally caught his breath and finished his breakfast. Pretty spooky for a second, the whole restaurant was freaking out.

I always enjoyed brush fires and medical calls. I miss it.

I have been a volunteer for 2 1/2 years. I am working on getting Driver/Operator and EMT certification so I have a chance at being hired full time. My dept. is a paid and volunteer dept.

Hi all! ~~~~ seacrow!? You too? LOL! small world eh?

Cool sticker, steveo. Nice touch to honor an obviously loved one...

Chief165 and NSS, stick with the job searches. Apply for EVERY Firefighter job you can. Don't limit yourself to just one region. Apply EVERYWHERE you can! Keep taking classes and build that resume!

I figured there might be a few of us here lurking about.

I worked for a fully paid Fire Department of 120 members. I worked as an EMT/P-Paramedic and was Captain of one our 6 stations. We ran Advanced Life Support engine companies to medical emergencies as well as all other runs we responded to.

Then came the knee injury. 2 surgeries later I was only classified as 90% fit to perform what my Department required of 100% fitness...

Soooo......take care of those knees and backs! Don't stress them out too much.

Thanks for all that you Firefighters of America (and elswhere of course!!) do and risk for us everyday!

Question

I am a member of our ERT at my employer. (a chemical plant)

HAZMAT Tech.

Medic First Responder

Confined Space Rescue

Fire Brigade

Does this count?

Not really a fire fighter, but then when you guys get a call to a chemical plant my guess is you Pro's will welcome our help I know the local fire fighters here sure do.

Hi Firezap;

I've seen pics of your truck elswhere on these boards. I want to tell you that you have one fine truck! The clear corners really cleaned up and finalized the front end.

Hi redwing;

Tell you what...when Firefighters get a call to a chemical plant, their a$$es pucker BIG TIME!

Thanks for being one the folks who are readily on-scene (or on-call) to direct the fire crews.

Btw, yes this "counts" as being a part of a fire response TEAM!

Thanks but the front isn't done yet. Next I'm replacing the black plastic bumper cap with a gold 1 and I'm going to get a billet insert for the lower section. Then comes the lights like Franks&Beans with 2 6" in the upper grill and 4 2" in the lower.

POC for 5 years in the town I live and 3 years on a brigade in a chemical plant I worked at. Moving out of district in two months and plan to join there and continue working part-time (ambulance only) in the town I'm moving from.

Only EMT in the chemical plant I currently work in and they don't "have room" for any more members.

Hi all4chem!

Oh yeah...now the "screen name" makes sense!

I'm surprised to hear that you're the only EMT at a chemical plant and they don't "have room" for any more EMT's?? What's up with that?

Licensed Emergency Medicine was my specialty as a professional Firefighter. Only been out of it for 3 years. I'm considering my options to use that knowledge to land a better $paying$ job than what I have now --> Emergency Services Dispatcher.

Good luck on the move to a new district and thanks for the action pic!

Hey, guys, I am trying to be a firefighter/paramedic. I just decided on this career path last year, but I hope to be in the Reserve academy in January, as I am interviewing for a position as an E.M.T. tomorrow morning. I am pretty excited.
