Post Removing gauges

I searched on removing the gauges and read the two or three relevant hits. Just wanted to see if anyone had new info or techniques on removing the gauges as my white ones are supposed to be here on the 3rd.

I assume you still start with the vertical screws near the clear plastic and remove the panel around the steering column.

Appreciate any comments..

I just installed my white faces last weekend.
Note the gas gage location, all the other needles you can eyeball or use the digital readout to set.
Disconnect both battery cables.
The headlight switch assy on my 2k model just poped out, no turning/twisting of **** required.
Three bolts on top of instrument cluster, another where the headlight switch module was. Two on the bottom of cluster. Center cover just pops out.
Four (or five?) bolts to hold the instrument cluster. Carefull with the gear indicator. Two plugs on the back. You'll have to twist and turn to get the cluster out.
Do the faceplate switch in the house vice in the truck. The black faceplate is tacked on in several places and has no adhesive back.
Leave the clear plastic of the cluster, reinstall it, connect battery, start engine and install gas, oil, volt and rpm gages.
Don't put on the clear cover and black bezel until you've installed the gear selection indicator. You can't reach it with the cluster completely assembled. Drive truck and set mph needle using the digital readout. After all that the engine is warm so the temp needle goes on at halfway point.
Don't push the needles all the way in, they get stuck. Test full movement via the digital gage test.
BTW to activate the digital readout, hold odometer reset button while starting truck and then for 8 seconds. When it reads TEST let go. RPM for well, rpm and ENGMH (?) for mph.
The speedo is the hardest part, I'm reading 3mph high right now. I'll have to get motivated to dig in it to change it so get it right the first time.
Hope this helps.
Fritz
