The saga continues..................
Anyone following the recent events regarding my captains chairs (and getting sick of my
b!tching) knows that this has been a royal PITA. A quick update, I finally got the refund from the online junkyard that sent me the totally wrong seats only after filing a dispute with my Visa debit card at my bank. In the meantime, I had met a guy that wanted to trade his 97 chairs for my POS split bench. Part of the deal is that the piece of plastic trim on my seat be fixed. Now the part to fix it is backordered or something. My dealer ordered it about three weeks ago. I have never been this close to beating the hell out of a vehicle with a sledge hammer. This is like a curse! I am closing on a new house tomorrow so a new truck is out of the question for a while. I can't even get this crappy designed seat fixed if I could bear keeping the stupid thing. So if my trade bails out, I may hold out for the plastic trim and take a chainsaw to the armrest and the seat cushion and make my own captains chairs. I will then take it to the upholstery shop and have about 200 cubic feet of that annoying foam cut out of the front bottom cushion (directly behind the knees) so I don't have to drive on a Chaise Lounge. This seat has single handedly made this the worst vehicle ownership experience I have ever had to endure.
Sorry to ramble and vent about the same problem over and over again. I can't even explain the nightmare this has been. I gotta go sharpen the chain on my chainsaw.

Don't waste your time on any stock seats if you arn't happy with the ones you have now. Ford seats are not well designed and you likly won't be happy with 'em.
Get a Recaro or other well designed seat.

I don't understand how a seat can be that awful. I've got a 97 with the split bench and love it, youve got the best of both worlds (two seats and an armrest/storage box and a jump seat). I plan on ordering the split bench in leather on my next truck. How can this seat be that bad?

I think I can tell why Seacrow hates his bench. I was fortunate to ride in a 2000 F-150 supercab yesterday that has the split bench, and at the end of the seat,(where your knees are) there is a bulge that raises the end up high, it made my back hurt only riding in it about 70miles.
Past, pretty much has it right. Also, when the passengers side seat is slid back, my arm barely reaches the armrest. The seat padding was changed in 99. I just don't like this seat and I have lived with others uncomfortable furniture, trucks, cars, etc. for years but this seat is by far the worst. And the plastic keeps breaking. Next time, I will shop seats before brand loyalty, engine, or options get the best of me.

No problems whatsoever with my 97 split bench seat...with almost 80K miles too. I like the fact that if needed, I can squeeze all 4 boys and the wife in my truck...a feat becoming more and more difficult the bigger the boys get...at least the seats are holding up!

enok, I have been amazingly calm considering what has happened in the past few months. I am actually making light of it hence my new username. The most frustrating thing is the color of my interior is what is holding me back from getting the seats I prefer. And once I finally find a way to get captains chairs in an even trade, the guy that is trading me won't until this backordered plastic trim comes in. It is backordered because of the dark graphite color, so my service writer says. If by some unfortunate incident my interior would burn or flood or get destroyed in some other way it would be virtually impossible to find any replacement parts to fix it. That is perhaps the most frustrating thing to me. I have one of the best selling vehicles in the entire world but one of only a few with this color interior. IF I had medium graphite, I could buy enough seats to fill a four car garage, dirt cheap! The one place that thought they had my seats wanted $1100. Otherwise, I like this particular truck so much I can't get rid of it. I have no door cracks, no slap, it has a rare appearance package for 99 and is a gem to drive.
Past, yes I always have at least one regret with a vehicle. If I buy another, I will rent or test drive a vehicle for at least three days before I sign anything. I will also shop around more and get what fits me best period. I spend a lot more time in my vehicles than I used to and will be spending more in the next few years. A stupid seat is the last thing I need to worry with.
The dual cupholder (which is a much better design and far less intrusive in to the rear seat area) was a mid-2000 change. Most of the 2000 models I have seen are single cupholder until very recently.

Seacrow: Theres always got to be one thing wrong with a vehicle isn't there?!?!?!
The only thing I could tell you, is to keep looking, or order a new truck identical to yours...1999's are bit different than 2000's?? Every 2000 that the local dealer has, is equipped with a split bench...Why are buckets so rare??
BTW, is it just 2000's that have the dual cupholders or do 1999's have them too? My 99 brochure only has 1.

Seacrow: Your right the 2000 brochure lists only 1 too.
I think of it the other way around. The interior is the most important aspect. Especially if you spend alot of time inside. This 2000 I rode in, the guy got it in early June?? I looked at the door sticker, but didn't look at the build date but it had the 2 cupholders.
Where's the cd changer located now? The dash cd player had the comp and shuff buttons but I couldn't find the changer... Arn't they on the driverside in supercab door It wasn't there????

ccla, thanks for the "heads up" and the consideration. I sent the email, we'll see what happens.
Past, I think that the cd changer is located under the drivers seat or somewhere under/behind the back seat. I just bought a new house out of town somewhat. I am already on my third tank of gas this week. So I am definitely spending more time in the truck.
My local dealer has about 100 F-series trucks and hardly any with captains chairs. I stop to look at a SuperCrew almost every other day. It's hard to keep from buying one. Not a chance with the 60/40, NO WAY!
