Question Powdercoating

Recently I have discovered chips in my painted front bumper and they are rusting. I made an insurance claim and I chose to take it to my dealer's body shop. The shop contact recomended that I take it and have it powdercoated instead of painted. Is he helping me out by suggesting this or is he putting his work off on someone else?

You can Powder coat the meatal part, but not the plastic. Did you not get touch up paint? as soon as I got a chip, out came the touch up. I applied several coats to make it last. Can't even tell where I touch up..

The company that my father works for powder coats everything that they produce, almost everything. It is far better than just paint. I have seen some poor coats on some of the metal because the metal was really dirty and wasn't cleaned properly. The magnatize the metal and the coat sticks to the metal. I had a little atv trailer powdercoated and it looks better than alot of manufactored trailers, but there are several places that are messed up. I am not sure, but arn't argent bumpers powdercoated instead of painted.

He's helping you out. Powder coat is much more resistant to chiping and scratching than paint. I had the bumpers on my Blazer powder coated about 7 years ago. there is one place that has started to peal, but it's on a sharp corner of the grill guard.
The one thing you will want to consider is being able to match the paint. It's been a while since i delt with it, but there wasn't a wide selection, so I had the paint matched to the bumper. Also, you won't be able to wax the powder coat, so while it is shinny, it won't have the same loolk as the truck.
i'd look into it, but keep the +s and -s in mind.
