Exclamation Times are changing.

I had an odd experience today. My Father is wanting a Ruger 10/22 for his Birthday, so I go shop around for a few days. I then end up at the usual place I buy guns. Though, I've kind of been out of commission for a few years due to an illness that has a very slow recovery process, so I haven't bought a rifle in about 5 years, give or take a year.
My Dad is just wanting this 22 because he is crippled and in an electric wheelchair, and likes to sit on his deck and shoot targets. It entertains him, and keeps him occupied.
So today, I do the usual paperwork and pay for the rifle, The call in to the ATF, or whoever they call. They were told to hold the rifle and give it to me on the 21st. if they do not here back from them.
I have a squeaky clean record, I've never been in trouble in my life, and never pointed a gun at anyone, except when Uncle Sam told me to do so.
The Lady handling the transaction told me that this is not uncommon these days, because of the overwhelming demand for guns right now, and that there is a tremendous backlog. But if they don't get a reply by the 21st to give me the rifle.
This whole situation just blows me away. I got a traffic ticket last year, that I went to court over but paid the fine and left because it was consuming to much of my time.
The insurance company recently re-uped my insurance and there are 0 points on that record.

I really feel my rights have been violated, because as far as my record goes I should be considered a model citizen. I don't have a concealed permit, but a friend at the Gun store told me to get it soon, because that too would be changing soon.
Has anyone else had an experience like this recently?

I've purchased 2 guns in the last 2 years(last one this past October). Both times I think it only took a minute or so for the check.

However I applied for my concealed permit back in November and the wait went from 4 weeks to 20 weeks. There has been a bum rush ever since Obama started to be a contender for president. I knew I shouldn't have been putting off getting my permit for the last several years.

I bought a 10/22 last year also and it took no time at all to confirm it all. Doesn't this have something to do with the new president or something?

This problem is due to the AMOUNT of guns being bought and the amount of histories they have to research. It sounds like the same search just a wait to keep the system from going down. However, I dont care, if you have served this country you should be able to buy any gun you want, maybe even at cost. Sorry you have to wait TUMBA but dont read too much into it. Just sounds like too much volume, not a "cooling off" period. Just look at how many "gun" threads were started today

Already have a ruger 10/22 (great little gun). Went to cabelas today to look at a new .45. Went to go get ammo............ NO .45 ammo at all, ask one of the workers about the next shipment, he said they didnt know because the manufacture is playing catch-up with the demand. Also no .223 ammo for AR15. Im trying to buy lowers but cant seem to find them either, all on back order.

I applied for a permit to buy a pistol in NC and it took about a week from the time I applied and the time I received the permit. No waiting period or permit required for a long gun in NC.

I read these threads all the time, but this is the first time any of these things have happened to me. Strange feeling. I'm not a Hunter or anything, just never enjoyed it. But I love to shoot, My friends and I used to love trap shoot with 22s, thats how much I enjoy guns.
It just blows me away, to be delayed in buying one. I haven't threatened anyone in days

I'm not a US citizen but live here, when i buy guns it depends on where i buy them to if i get a "wait" time or not,it ranges from an hour to 3 days, most of the time i have no wait.

If you have a common name or one that is the same as someone who is on the "watch list" it will lengthen the time it takes to get cleared. If you get a Concealed Carry license you don't have to wait. You still fill out all the paperwork though.

Before you run out and get that CC license, you need to check with your States requirements and how they handle your information. In Texas, your CC license is public knowledge, not private. Any burglar that can operate a computer can look to see who has a license. That's where to find the guns he wants to steal- it's like a shopping list. Also, if the SHTF situation should arise and we end up having to protect ourselves from our own Gov"t, the first place they will look is at CC license holders. Do yourself a favor, buy used guns at gunshows, know the seller so you aren't buying stolen guns, and keep yer mouth shut about what you have. Considering everything that's going on in the world today the less they know about you, the better.
And don't sweat the waiting period. I have a friend that is a local sheriff and he always has problems getting a gun even after the waiting period. His name is the same a known drug dealer and the drug dealer always shows the deputy's home town as his address so he doesn't have any problems. It's all in knowing the system.

you can be delayed for any number of reasons. I work behind a gun counter and deal with this everyday. People with perfect records get delayed, its not common, but it does happen. There are even police officers and people with security clearances that get delayed. I wouldn't take it personally, anyone can be delayed for any reason even if it doesn't make sense, but it happens.I'm not agreeing with it, but I just deal with this all the time. Chances are you will get a call to come pick your gun up before the 21st or you can just go in that day to pick it up in the morning if they dont call you and tell you you cant have the gun. Goodluck and have fun with the 10/22, its an awesome gun.
