Cool Accessories - help me decide !!

Well, here is my problem. I want to make some changes to the truck.

So far, I have added an K&N FIPK to it and I am looking at adding some chrome rims to the truck. Which ones do you think would look better on the truck ??

American Racing OR U.S. Wheels

Also, I have been thinking about adding either Stainless/Chrome bars OR Lund fiberglass steps to the truck as well. I am going to add a stainless steel air dam from J&J enterprises with the driving lights in it. The greatest concern I have is with the road salt here in the winter and I am worried that the salt will eat through the chrome bars. That is why I was thinking on stainless because they are more likely not to be eaten by the road salt as easy. I am planning on keeping this truck as long as possible. Put it this way, I bought my '87 with 120,000 kms on it and sold it with 305,000 kms. If any body has pics of the '94 era trucks with these accessories, I would love to see them. I am having a hard time visualizing the truck with certain bars or fiberglass steps. Please, give your opinion, advice on the above and anything that I have missed. I am planning an exhaust in the future (single in, dual out - Flowmaster) so don't worry about that.

Izzy, been trying to visualize this for you too. Since you have the 2 tone with the silver on the bottom I thing a metallic type step would not look as good as say a Lund Superstep painted to match the silver. The silver paint would take away from the effect of the bars (if it was all dark blue I would say Bars). As for the wheels, I visualize the US Wheels to go with the whole effect with the step and the 2 tone (again if it was all dark blue, I'd say the American Racing with the deeper effect).

You missed an F150online.com sticker, unless you're waiting for the updated edition to come out.

That's my 2 cents(US) worth. But if you want an expert opinion ask Raoul!

I like the American Racing wheels better. As for steps I'd go with the stainless. With your winters up there and the salt you definetly want the stainless.

Personally, I like the wheels that you have on your truck. Save the money on that wheel purchase and buy an ARE tonneau cover instead. As far as the step goes, if you want it to blend in, get the fiberglass ones and paint them to match. Otherwise go with the stainless bars. I had (stainless w/black step) www.dawsbetterbuilt.com on my last truck. Also put some ventshades around your windows. Can you find tail light covers??

Clarion APA 5240 amp, Memphis speakers:Components front, 5x7 rear, 10"sub
SuperChip, Stepshields, Ventshields on windows, rubber bed mat
rugged liner bedliner on tailgate, quick disconnect jumper cables

Well, here is some more info. on the situation at hand. I had a '87 pickup and had problems with the rims and had to buy another set. (U.S. Wheels) and have been running them in the summer time. When I bought the '94, the truck sat as you see it. Since the chrome rims can't be fixed and the aluminum ones can ($150 each for spin and re clear-coat them), I put them on as my winter rims. I am trying to create a summer / winter truck with accessories. During the winter the cap (topper) goes on and the weight goes in. My chrome rims were in fairly good condition, a few light rust marks but nothing that couldn't be polished off UNTIL this spring when I washed them off (dust) and found that one of had a rust spot on it that was about 6 in. long and about 1 wide. Must have been the moisture of the winter, they were loosely covered to keep snow off of them (bad roof in dad's shed). I tried using fine steel wool but didn't get it off and didn't want to scratch the chrome that is still there. That has prompted me to buy another set. I have found that most stainless steel bars compared to the lund steps are usually less expensive by a couple of hundred bucks. Here, these things hit a minimum of $500 CDN easy by the time the accessory shops get them and put exchange, taxes, etc on them. ANYONE UP FOR DONATIONS TO THE CAUSE You see my dilema, how do all you guys (& gals) do it. Get a new truck and then accessorize it the way that you want ??????

Tina: yeah, I can get tail light covers for it (slotted of course) but I am concerned about my back up lights getting through to give me the light I need. I have changed the bulbs to the halogen ones because out on the farm, there isn't a light behind you all the time and with a 20 ft. long truck, it just doesn't work at times. I need my light! Keep on the comments coming.

Unhappy

Here is some more depressing news. Just got some prices back on some of the accessories, here is the list.

Lund - Stepmates - $476 + paint & install (like these better)
Lund - Super Steps - $227 + paint & install
Eclipse Tallight Covers - $66 + paint & install (probably do myself)
Westin - Stepbars - $449 + install (probably do myself)
Westin - Pushbar - $361.14 + install
Westin - Brush Guards - $305.33 + install
Smittybuilt - Sure-Steps - $523.88 + $15.50 Special Order Fee + install (probably install myself)
Might be able to get better prices at different place. Going back to Dad's place (Sarnia) so I might give them a shout. For the Smittybuilt stuff, the supplier suggested going with Westin because they have a better warranty on the chrome parts.

Just don't know ??????????

Izzy: Try that site for BetterBuilt. www.dawsbetterbuilt.com I remember their prices were just as bad as what you're listing for those other step bars but when I called their 800# they told me I could order from Walmart. I checked w/Wallmart and sure enough was able to order and the price was almost half what the site had led me to believe. I was gonna put on the black because they were cheaper but when Wallmart told me the prices, I went whole hog, Stainless!!!! I don't care for chrome, it always seems to peel or rust where it's been hit. Installation was pretty simple, lay out all the parts, make sure you've got a floor creeper, your tools to install and you put them on. First side takes about 1hour (you're figuring out what's what) other side about 15 minutes!!

Cool

Well, I have made a decision on the wheels, NO, uh, uh !!! After a little more work on my original chromies, I put them on and now I am concentrating more on the other parts. (air dam, exhaust, etc). I will post a pic once I get one. I am now double thinking my decision on the Stainless Steel air dam from J&J Enterprises. I was hoping for a dam that would house two sets of lights (driving & fog) but most I have seen only have room for 1 set of lights (driving). If anyone knows of a air dam on the market that houses two sets of lights, please let me know.

Tina: called Daws and they told me of a couple of places here in Southern Ontario and I called them and they bars for the truck are $500.00 too. Our Walmart here don't sell stuff like that, they just sell taillight covers and air deflectors for the windows. It nevers fails, when I see something that I like, it is never available for my truck. I like the KC Air Dam (holds 2 sets of lights) but they don't make one for my truck. I guess I will just keep looking.

Cool

Well, after checking out a bunch of prices and searching the internet for anything and everything that would fit my truck, I have decided on the following:

J&J Enterprises Stainless Steel Air Dam with Drving Lights
A set of Lund Supersteps - Painted Silver with blue decorative lights mounted on them
VTech TailLight Covers - Painted Blue
Lighted Chrome Grab Bars

and out the door for around $1500.00 CDN

I went with the stainless steel up front because if I got a painted one, the stones would pound the ***** out of it and it would chip and peel. Yuck !!! Now I just have to make sure the cash is there.

It will be at least another week before my parts are in. The tail light covers still have to be painted and then about 6 hours of install time to put it all together.
