Question 97 F150 odometer rolled back?

Is there an easy way to check the odometer for tampering (either rolled back or disconnected) on an '97 F150 4wd?

My brother has a chance to buy the truck and it seems like a good deal but I'm a little leery. The odometer reads only 13,500. The truck looks good but not THAT good. It was a daily driver supposedly and not a work truck but I still wonder if we can check to be sure.

The truck is a 1997 F150 4wd with a standard tranny and the 4.6 liter engine.

I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.

1. Ask a Ford dealer to run your vin number for recalls with dates and mileage.
2. Check where oil changes were done for computer records of service dates and mileage. Ask for records of maintainence.
3. State inspections in Texas show mileage when inspected yearly. Does Georgia?
4. How do the tires and shocks look? Do they look 13,5000 miles?
5.Look at the brake pedal rubber for wear.
6. Does the seller have to sign a mileage statement in Georgia when selling? If the mileage turns out to have been altered you have them for fraud.

Just a few thoughts. My truck is 48 months old and has 47,000. I thought that was low!

13,500 on a 97 is a little to low of mileage for a daily driver I had my 2000 F150 for 7 months as of today and have just over 11,100 miles on it and its a daily driver I would check with the VIN number to see a history of the truck.

It's good to have connections...

It seems a little low, I can see an old man driving that few miles, but usually it would be garage kept and well maintained.

Price guides usually allow 12,000 mi. per YEAR for low mileage.

Oh, and I don't think we have a speedo cable. Just a VSS connector. If it were disconnected, it would trip the check engine light, but I have seen people who have done this, left the light on, and reset the codes when reconnected...
