February Convention of Idiots on Lake Erie!

135 idiots went icefishing yesterday, even though they knew that temps would hit the low to mid 50's...this is the result:

Every year, people are warned, people are rescued, but this year, they were warned about the warm weather and the winds, but one died...a big thanks to the Coast Guard, which brought in helicopters from as far away as Detroit and Traverse City Michigan, as well as a C-130 from North Carolina...134 were safely returned to shore---now, about their ATV's and snowmobiles, that is a different matter.

From news reports, there were cracks in the ice on Friday, but they bridged them with pallets...they were actually on the ice on Friday planning "what if" rescues...

That would tell meit is time to take my ATV off of the ice and go home...

I call them idiots. They crossed over a large crack in the ice to go fishing, they knew the ice was unstable.

If there was no crack in the ice when they headed out, and all of a sudden it broke off and stranded them, then it would just be bad luck. But it would still be a little bit of idiocracy for going out on ice in warm temperatures.

I know the EPA will fine you if you sink a boat or anything with gas, oil, and battery type pollutants, and will bill you for the recovery. I wonder. Do all of these people face penalties.

The Western Basin of Lake Eirei is relatively shallow and there are currents that can move quickly. This type of incident occurs almost yearly---but this year the was a record "catch" for the Coast Guard.

Cripes, it has been realtively warm here for several days, and yesterday it hit 52 in Cleveland. I love to fish (rarely ice fish, though, for this reason) but cryin' out loud, where does common sense kick in and the fishermans' version of "buck fever" leave?

I have a question...
Let's say you're a dummy who goes out on the ice while it's unsafe, and your vehicle falls through and sinks; does insurance cover that?
please tell me it doesn't.

As a matter of fact, does insurance cover your vehile anytime it falls thorugh the ice?
Just curious

My insurance covers my ATV if it goes through. Its collision. The moment the atv touchs bottom its a collison. I'm with TD Primum insurance. I doubled checked my policy and its covered.

I was sort of thinkin' maybe that with the flow of the lake heading towards Erie, that there might be some $$$ to be made by the folks off of Presque Isle...but no such luck, some of the guys went back out today on air boats and retrieved their stuff.
