Cell Question - Is My Phone Fried?
Cell Question - Is My Phone Fried?
My HTC Keiser (ATT Tilt) seems to have bricked. I've pulled the battery and have tested it with my multimeter. The battery reads that it's a 4.2 DCV battery and it checks out at 4.1 DCV. Can the battery be bad? It seems like it's putting out the correct juice -- but, then again, this battery has FOUR terminals. Any chance that the battery is bad?
The phone simply goes to a 'red' LED when I plug it in to the wall or to a car charger.
Does anyone know if there's a way that I can check my phone? I cannot find one of these batteries ANYWHERE in this city so, I'm not sure if there's any hope that it's a battery or if, indeed, my phone has been zapped. The strange thing is that it worked perfectly fine this morning and then, I look down and it's dead and won't boot.
ANY help is greatly appreciated.

I have confirmed that this phone will not boot without a battery in place thus, I can't test it with a simple plug to the wall...
My main question is - any chance that it's the battery considering that it has almost a full charge to it? What are the other two terminals on this battery? Obviously, one is + and one is -... what are the other two? I'm certainly willing to dump $20 on a battery rather than several hundred on a new phone.
make sure the battery terminals are clean and dont have any black or green spots on them. if the battery friend that will normally be the sign. i would also take out your sim card and use one of those computer dusters to dust out the phone.
I just checked my battery. With the battery on its side and all terminals towards the left they would be in the following configuration +--- so I show 4.19VDC between the 1st term on the left across any of the other 3. There is a reset button on the bottom of the phone next to the USB/charger port that you press with the stylus while holding 2 of the side buttons.IIRC its power, camera then the stylus. Do a search on line theres a bunch of info on it. Good luck
Okay... I've checked all four terminals. When I first touch the terminal, the battery spikes to 4.5 or better... then settles back to 4.1 or a little less.
I'm guessing that this would be indicative of a good battery?

Mine does not do that with the O.E. or aftermarket battery but if I had to guess I would say its ok. I looked around on the net and this so called red light of death as its commonly called is somewhat common. Fixes were everything from several resets like I mentioned to removing and reinstalling the battery 20 times (not the most techie fix) to having the phone replaced. Do a search on "AT&T tilt not booting" and you should find enough info to get you through it. Hopefully mine does not start acting up.
Well... I believe I've confirmed that mine is an expensive paper weight now. A buddy of mine allowed me to borrow his battery out of his Tilt and it simply won't boot. I've tried resetting MULTIPLE times. In fact, I've tried just about everything short of throwing it against the wall... I believe she's a goner'.
I'm working to find another phone to get me by for now. Craigslist has been helpful thusfar...
Thanks again for the help!

Did you check out a phone forum? Like Howard Forums or something? I'm not sure if there are one specifically for HTC devices, but I'll bet there is.
The depth of knowledge would be greater there. There may be chance you can save it, but it might not be easy.

... and we're back up and running.
I found an article on xda developers (via hofo which I had previously checked and have been a member since 05').
Lo and behold... there's a fix. Although, I don't know how permanent it'll be as some report the same problem very shortly after the 'fix' works. We'll see...
For now, I'm backing off my hunt on finding another phone.
Again, thanks to everyone.

Which "fix" brought it back ? I have read the same things about them locking up again. I have only had mine for a few weeks, added a few programs to enhance its functionality but I am still not sure I like it. Battery life is marginal at best and the bluetooth is flakey. I am glad I did not sell my crackberry yet.
I like my tilt. My only complaint is the touch screen is finicky. Every now and then it just doesn't work. Takes MULTIPLE tries before it actualyl does something. But it's not often so I don't care. I'd like to know the fix as well incase I need it.
