I guess a lot of members have fast connections. I still believe the majority of us are on slow 56K (if that) connections.

Maybe some day I will get a DSL connetion but NetZero is free....can't beat that!

Another thing that increases load time (OK, maybe not significantly) is the bloody books people write for a sig. I'm talking 20 or 30 lines of details. Sometimes a thread is super long even though people only type in a line or two.

If you want to check out my truck, go to my link. I think if you can, you should just link to your own page.

Add to that people who show their signature on every post under one subject. If we have seen it once we do not need to see it again.

Yeah, I know my sig is long but I try not to use it twice in a thread.
I also have spent MANY hours reducing pics just so that they load quicker.
However, I do understand that most of our visitors are more Truck savvy than computer savvy. So we must be a good example and hope they get the hint as well as retain a certain amount of forgivness.

One signature per thread -- I like that, BlueFlareside. Sounds reasonable to me.

Here's my one and only for this tread...

Andthensometoo,
I know what you are saying about trucks savy vs. computer savy. I do not really see a problem as much with signatures becuase it gives a place for people to summarize their trucks and a lot of cool links are there also (a lot in yours....great site).

I just found another picture in a profile that was 189 KB! Cehck it out https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/003309.html

Here is the original picture that was forced to fit http://www.bly.tzo.com/lightning/mvc-077x.jpg

190kb file downloaded at 4kb/sec = 47 sec!! Just to see a 1 inch by 1.5 inch picture.

I saved that same picture down to a 200x150 pixel image and it is 8kb.

Probably...maybe I should explain it in truck terms.

Loading that image with a modem compared to a DSL, cable modem or T1 is like the difference between a 4.2 and a Lightning in the 1/4 mile. You think that would work??

Only if you put the word 'Lightning' first,... I don't think they will read anything after the 4.2 part.

I'd say the difference is EVEN BIGGER like a 4.2L 4x4 with maximum payload + trailer Vs. a Lightning with all the mods...

Has anyone noticed that some of these pages now take FOREVER to load? Go to https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/003266.html and see how long it takes to load the page with a 56K connection! The problem is that some people are taking full screen images and just forcing them to a certain height and width and the image file size is never actually reduced. One image on there was over 40K.

Webmaster Steve has replied to a similar post in the Lightning forum that this is a hack and it will slow everyone down https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/003288.html . What does everyone think?

The pictures are nice to see to relate a truck or image to a user but I do not really care if I see them if they make things slower. Not everyone is using this site at work on a fast connection or on a cable modem or DSL.

Just my opinion, though.

I am waiting for free DSL in my area. the only downside is that you have to buy the equipment ($200-$300)!
