I know this site is for the Ford Trucks, however, I need HELP on a 94 Ford Taurus. I bought my wife's Taurus into the shop with 57,000 miles on it,car is out of warranty and found out the car had bad motor mounts, and transaxle seals went bad and a piston was shot. Price tag for this will be $2200, which I havent paid yet. How can a transmission go so bad with 57,000 miles on it? And a Motor Mounts get that bad? I am trying to get Ford to take responsbile for this, as there is nothing we could have done in preventing this from happening. Sounds like a defective transmission. From surfing around the net, it looks like they have a history for bad transmssions with Taurus that have AXOD Transaxles. Any advise, would be greatly appreciated on how you would handle this..Now I have to hope that my Truck does not have this kind of crap!!

A similar thing happened to my parents 93 Taurus. I believe that the motor mount thing was covered under a recall. The recall was just a year or two ago. Their tranny went out last year with 65,000 on it, cost about $2000 to have Ford rebuild it. They take excellent care of their vehicles, no idea why the tranny went, Ford wouldn't cover it, we didn't really expect that they would. I'll try to find out more details and let ya know.

Thanks..I am trying to force the hand of Ford, I might have to go to our local TV Station Troubleshooter, no transmission should go that quickly...thanks for the information on the Motor Mounts..Ford of course knows of no recalls on anything when I called. But, I will press harder on Monday.

No problem! The more I think about it, I think the motor mounts went out on them because they rusted out prematurely. Probably something with the material that was used. Again, I'll let you know more when I talk to my dad.

 

Good luck. My wife had a 96 Contour that was 5 months out of warranty with only 31,000 miles and the timing "slipped" while she was going 5 MPH. This resulted in bent valves, ruined pistons, etc. $3700 out of my pocket later it had a new engine (this was the 24V V-6. Ford gave us $1000 towards the repairs and they said that we were lucky becuase they did not have to give us anything. This on an engine that was supposed to go 100,000 miles without a tune-up!! We traded it on a '00 Accord for her the day it got out of the shop (which took almost a month to fix)

Let us know what they say.

I will get an extended warranty on my F-150 when the warranty is up.

Thanks, will let you know the outcome on Monday. That is D-Day, but, from what I am seeing, it does not seem like it will be to good. I will give it my best shot!! What can I lose, on second thought $2200. I hate to say this, but, when my Wife had a Toyota, it lasted forever, with minor repairs. Now I know why people are switching to German and Japanese cars. They seem to hold up a hell of a lot better.

That is why we went with the Honda. I trust Ford's trucks but I do not know if I will ever buy a car from them again. I had a '94 Mustang GT before my F-150 and I had it inthe shop for warranty work at least 10 times (new steering, new clutch, new interior panels on doors, etc.) So far my truck has been in once for a bad selenoid on my transmission.
