Reeses Pieces Trailer Hitches Like Bumpers

Today I was at the bank drive thru, and I was sitting there in my truck, with the ebrake on of course, the radio blaring, and I hear a loud pop. I was like... WTF... then I thought it was one of the bank tube carriers. So I was sitting there... and all of a sudden a lady comes knocking on my window. I was like of baffled... I rolled my window down, and I asked, "How may I help you?"... she said, "I just hit you." and she looked rather scared and bewildered. And I said, "You mean you hit my truck?", and she said "Yes, do you want my insurance and registration?" I was like... in the back of my head, oh that's what that noise was... I told her, "Hold on a second..." She then went babbling on that she left it in drive... I was like, "ok."...

So I get out of my truck and look... nice gaping hole right through her license plate, right through her bumper. It looked like it damaged the radiator or condenser.

Damage to my truck? None... in fact, she did me a favor and cleaned some of the rust off the ball.

I then said, "Sorry, no damage to my truck, plus it wasn't on the road, and furthermore, you'll wreck your driving record if I call the cops." She was thanking me... I said, not a problem, just be more careful next time.

All I gotta say is two things...

1. I hate people that drive automatics.
2. Reese hitches loves eating through bumpers and radiators.

at least you had the hitch on it. the second day i drove my pickup to school a kid rear ended me and i didnt have a hitch at the time and it was $915 worth of damage in parts alone(bumper, brackets and bolts, exhaust tips and tailpipes). then i got a 15000lbs hitch off an f250 when i fixed it with a used bumper($100) and i got rear ended again like a year later and it didnt do a thing to my truck. gotta love it.

That is exactly why I leave my hitch on mine. I have yet to bang my knee on it yet... I might reconsider after that!

The only way that story could have been better is if you have ripped her bumper off when you pulled away!

Funny thing is... that her bumper costs way more than my $20 hitch... no wait... I got that hitch from my friend... so it meant nothing to me -- if it got busted that is.

It was a Hyundai Sonata that hit me, and I just priced out a new bumper, with the guard and everything, she's looking at ~$1200 to get it fixed using OEM parts.

It's her own damn fault... it's like dur, dur, dur...... I wonder what happens if I leave it in drive... dur, dur, dur...

i got hit by an eclipse the first time which was a nice car until he hit me. then i was hit by a stratus. i dont know how that kid in the eclipse hit me though. we were sitting in front of a crossing guard for like 2 minutes then all the sudden...bam his car was under my truck. destroyed his front end and even the engine.
what happened exactly though? did she decide to like get out of the car while it was running? or was she sitting there and let off the brake while it was still in gear?

That's funny...

Nah, she said she forgot to put it in park, she went to go reach down to get her checks and deposit slip and she took her foot off the brake.

My truck didn't even budge.

She hit me like she would hit a reinforced concrete wall with a metal Reese hitch sticking out.

I'm sorry, but IMHO, it's way too funny.

I should've said, "Yeah, my truck just pops up out of no where... just like that ATM machine over there..."

Well... you know when someone has a brainfart, and their are like, "ummmmmm"... well, something like that... when you are oblivious to what is going on around you... like you are in your own little world or trance.

Yeah, I was surprised... now that I'm thinking about it... she was probably having a not so good day. But whatever...

One thing I've learned about driving stick... always do the neutral swing (left-right-left-right) to ensure it won't get sucked into a gear or the truck is in gear. I've never let off the clutch until doing that. Because it would suck if I left it in for whatever was in front of me or behind me for that matter. Way worse than leaving it in drive.

I read the thread title and figured you went off the deep end.

Good to hear that your truck didn't get damaged.

That lady is lucky I didn't tow her car around the block a few times using my chain.

But on the lighter side... I couldn't stop laughing the whole way home... and heck, even now.

So yeah, I need to get one of those pintle hooks next.. or a tri-ball hitch, with an extension on it.... maybe next time it will do more damage.
