A good day riding

well it was a balmy 4 degrees and quit snowin today so i decided that i wanted to go riding...called up a couple buddies n off to the trails we went.

i started the day off on my 86 honda 250R quad. all went well, ran like a top, then whammy, no shift lever left, stripped the splines.

so i say ok whatever it can be fixed, ill jus jump on another machine. So a girl that i let ride with us had my dads Polaris Scrambler 400 4x4 and she had already left so ill jump on that beast n tear it up. I jump on n start doin cyclone donuts, n blub blub blub, idk water in the fuel or something n i didnt feel like messin with it. so whatever ill swing back home quick and grab another one of my machines.

i shoot over to the house in my F-150 n think hey itd be fun to rip through the trails with my new dirtbike. So i jump on my 2002 Honda CR250R completley rebuilt from the frame up with less than 3 miles on it. I kick her a cpl times...wait a bit..kick her some more...nuthin...screw it, its too cold n shes doesnt wanna start. ok well i have one more option.

there sits my trusty 1985 Honda ATC250R trike. but the clutch was feelin a lil goofy last time i rode. played with the adjuster a lil bit n filled her with fuel. gave her a cpl kicks n boom we r back in business.

i get back to the trails. ok lets hammerdown. mind you ive been ridin my quad for the past month n not the trike....2 totally different animals. so we start tearin down the trail n im leadin the pack n startin to get used to the old girls ridin style again. Long story short, i rolled the 3 wheeler 4 times and broke the front fender. if the front tire wasnt jumpin front rut to rut or pushin through the center hump on the trail, it was in the air. she was a blast to ride and never got stuck even in the deep deep snow. just rolled over a lot. i really had a hard time with the right turns today.

so yea time for a beer and a piece of paper n a pencil to start makin my things to fix n buy for the toys list. but overall it was a good day riding.

thanks 4 listening. 2-strokes for life.

my good day of riding is much different than yours.

wake up early, drive to the trails, ride a good 5 or so hours and do about 100 miles, load up, get home and pass out.

the cagefight got cancelled...i was kinda pissed cuz i trained quite a bit for it.

no pics worth takin unless u wanna see what stripped splines on a shifter look like n a cracked front fender....theres pics of all my machines in one of the threads idk which one though.ooo umm honda 250r trifecta..check it to see em

jus cuz stuff broke doesnt make it a bad day. we went riding, hung out, watched each other pile up in the snow, noone got hurt, we had fun. good day in my book. i will be puttin about 200 or so miles on the 3wheeler next weekend.

Cut a piece of aluminum can. Wrap it around the shift shaft. Slide shifter back on. Tighten. Works great and actually holds along time.

thanks for the idea..im sure it works...just not a fan of cobbling things together unless its the only option...fix things the right way the first time.

i couldve just as easily went home n swapped the shifter from my trike to my quad but then id be swappin all the time n get sick of it...so just order new shifter and its all good...the splines on the shifter were stripped, but the shaft splines were fine.

Not a fan of cobbling either. But I am a fan of quick fixes so I can continue to ride. Nothing sucks worse than loading gear, bikes and riding for a half hour then simple crap ending your day.
