Angry Freeloaders

I'm sorry but I'm sick of all these ppl that are living off the goverment or lawsuit money.
I just get sick of all these commercials where lawyers tell you to call them and they will get you a check etc.
And all the ppl on welfare having a bunch of kids dropping out of school.
All these so called "disabled" ppl getting $1200 a month in SSI that are perfectly capable of working like the rest of us.
And guess who pays for it come April 15th.
Look on the back of your IRS booklet you got with your tax forms and see how much $$$ goes to support these ppl.
All of us working ppl are paying for this through higher taxes, insurance costs and medical bills.
Another thing about taxes, if they made ppl pay it all on April 15th there would be a tax revolt.
Think of everyone having to write a check for $10K or so on the 15th.
Instead they just take it out of your check and you never really notice how much you have to pay.
Come on, do you think you are getting $10K worth of goods and services per year from the government?
Heck whenever I use a government service I have to PAY for it in addition to the $10K a year I give them.
So WTF Am I getting for $10K a year?
Sorry for the ranting, just had to get it off my chest.

here here! Almost all of my tenants are on SSI and almost all of them are capable of working. Kinda sucks though because if they did work, I would not get the rent. They say "my SSI check pays the rent and buys groceries." I guess I feel better gettin some of it back.

Thank God for write offs.

I would like there to be no witholding at all. Every week, you would have to write separate checks to the govt for your taxes, social secruity, medicare & state taxes. Then people would realize how much they are paying, and demand that the govt cut taxes (or at least spend it wisely).

Don't even get me started on Social Security. Basically, it is a grand scheme for wealth redistribution. It works great for the people who hardly put anything in, but the guy with a good job who works 50 years gets the shaft.

I don't mind paying my taxes until I hear about these $600 toilet seats and $170 hammers.

I owed over $1500 in taxes this year so I got a big box and sent the IRS six hammers and a toilet seat with a note that said 'keep the change'.

FLAT SALES TAX.
Too many ppl lie about thier income.
Rich ppl can pay an accountant to get tehm out of the majority of thier tax one a year.
If thier was a flat 10% federal sales tax on everything in wouldn't be as easy for the rich to argue with the cashier every time they made a purchase.
Also since tax would be charged only when you bought something, you would never again have to do your taxes on the 15th.
10% sounds low but it would be enough considering evryone would have to pay it no matter how they got the $$$.
What would be even more convient is to price things on the shelf with all taxes included just like gas is.

I used to favor a flat income tax, but now I like the national sales tax (or Value Added Tax). With it, we would collect some revenue from tourists and from people in the underworld who currently don't participate in our tax system.

If you are hoping for a fair tax system, don't hold your breath. We still have the marriage penalty for crying out loud. If my wife & I divorced and continued to live together, we would have about $1,500 more in take home pay every year.

As bad as it is here, it could be worse.
I lived in Sweden for a few years, and as I did not buy a house or a car on time, my income tax was 46% of my net income and the only deductions I had were my three kids, not the wife.
In addition, the Value Added Tax was just at 20% on virtually everything. Then, there were the "sin" taxes on tobacco, alcohol and gasoline. A fifth of Jim Beam was $28.00, gas was $4.00 a gallon and smokes were about $5.00 a pack. That was in the mid '70s!

I agree that a national sales tax makes more sense than what we have now, but the interested parties will find a way to foul it up. How do you tax corporations? How do you handle bartering for goods and services, which is a really big deal in countries with high VAT setups?
How do you handle the objections of the less well off (my wording) who are very well protected by their elected representatives?
Generally, by writing all sorts of exemptions/credits and so on and you are almost back to where you started.
I fully agree that the present system is badly flawed, but we will need a much stronger leader (President) than I have seen in decades to have the vision and the grit to see through a thorough overhaul of our taxation system.
I think our political party leaders would be quite surprised at the public reaction to and support of any viable candidate that would run on a strong tax overhaul platform.
Of course if such a person won the election, he/she might not make it to the swearing in ceremony.

I never had the foggiest clue of how the income tax system really worked until I got in to real estate. I am one of the rare people that doesn't mind a resonable tax. I will probably be in a "zero tax" tax situation for '99 (filed an ext. this year). However, I work my *** off and have far from a normal life. I am sure that 54regcab, Bill Murray and all of the other self employed members understand. My days don't end at 5pm and weekends are rarely laid back for me. There is always something to do. I think that the tax system is desinged for the rich people and it benefits hard working self employed people. I highly doubt it will ever change. Write offs, depreciation, and stated income loans keep the whole thing sweet for rich people. I guess I can't complain too much. All of the blood, sweat, tears and stress of my chosen business would not be worth it if there were not some benefit. And hey, we get $ .32/mile in write offs to drive an F-150, not too shabby. It would still be much easier to send in a post card with a check for 5% instead of tracking all of this paperwork.

Hey Seacrow:

I full agree on several points. I do not mind paying taxes, never did actually. I understand the business of our government is vast and for the most part necessary.
So true as well, owning your own business does definitely have advantages, not only at tax time. But, I sometimes feel that even we are taking a little bit of advantage of the tax codes (legally mind you) compared to, say, our employees. The PC I am writing this on is in my home office, which I do not claim BTW, but is owned by my company as I do a great deal of business using it. It is a much better one than I would have purchased for my personal use, so I have it both ways and I can depreciate it as well.
Legal, yes of course, moral, I'm not sure.
But, that is the way the tax codes work.
Just a side note regarding the way our tax dollars are spent, and no moral position is intended here, I wonder how much it cost us taxpayers to move Elian Gonzales from Miami to Andrews Air Force Base yesterday?
That kind of "no control" spending arrogance by our Government is one of the things that does irritate the heck out of me when I look at my tax records (Pat and I do pay a fair amount of tax), and ponder where my money is going. A drop in the bucket in a trillion dollar budget year, but there are too many such drops in my opinion.

What really pisses me off is the "i'll vote to give myself a raise" jerks in the house and senate. Let's restructure the gov't with a flat tax, term limits, and rid washington of moronic "lifer" politicians. I think that eliminating all aid (except for those who are paralyzed or TRUELY unable to work) needs to happen. Hunger and death are great motivators! Get rid of all of the lawyer politicians who make too many laws that no one understands. Its a crying shame that if someone breaks into your house to steal your stuff, you can't shoot 'em without getting in trouble. What a joke. Hey, if he didn't break in, I wouldn't have shot 'em!!!! Jeez! And this Strom Thurman guy? man he is TOTALLY out of it! He's got a foot in the grave and has no idea whats going on. It's a free vote for someone who tells him what to do.
MY PHILOSOPHY: If you intentionally violate someones rights, you lose yours. There you go. NOW break into my house...heh heh....

Sermonette #2 over...thanks for letting me vent!

The system is far from perfect in quebec Canada. I see a welfare couple (able to work) living with each other but getting seperate checks! And why should they be able to afford a 5,000 car when they don't have a job!!! It seems to me that.... (left blank)... *&##"!1&?&?#)(*? ...

Meanwhile 40% of my damn paycheck goes to the stupid gouvernments. I make a good salery but 40% taken of every two weeks COMMON!!!

Freeloaders you say! Welfare people around here don't bother me as much as our stupid quebec gouvernment. Our tax dollars pays for language police (not allowed english around here), we pay for our ministers going to france to yell AT THEM because france isn't french enough, we pay for phuking referamdumbs (they want to seperate and get rid of english people). If I didn't believe so much in God I would, I would (left blank)

Sorry all, I have some issues and I will feel better once I get dahelloutof this province!!

Man, talk about opening a can of worms. I'm all for a flat tax also...it makes sense, the more you make, the more you pay. However the major flaw I've found with everyone of these posts is use of "rich people". I busted my *** in college for 5 years getting an engineering degree. I was flat broke, lived like a pauper and racked up a lot of student loans. Now I'm out in the world and finally reaping the benefits of my hard work. I put in a lot of overtime but make salary and I'm rewarded by being put into the 31% tax bracket. I'm so minutely over the bottom of the bracket it infuriates me. I'm far from rich and still live pretty frugally until I can repay my college debt (and not default like so many deadbeats out there). So I'm penalized heavily because the government considers me rich...and won't even let me deduct student loan interest. So let's not just go off and complain about the rich people...we pay our dues too.

Wow, it took Raoul 13 other replies to finally speak up about this subject. He must have been out tending to his goats or something.
