This may turn into a sore subject but I'm gonna jump right in with both feet!

If the truck has a history of problems, I would. If you plan on keeping it for a long time it may be a good idea.

If you like the warm fuzzy feeling of a warranty like I do then go for it. If you would rather put your money into other things that may return the cost of any repairs then do that.

This is definitely a two sided coin with no clear-cut right/wrong answer. This thread can/may get ugly so hold on....

I jumped right in to the extended warranty with my 97 also! Because of the 4x4 system which could be expensive to repair. But check with another customer (if you can) who has the extended warranty and see if he is satisfied. I had the opportunity to check out 2 customers with the ext. warranty. One said that his truck never broke down and the other said his car's engine blew and they replaced it with no problems.

If you decide to get it, make certain you get the one sold by Ford. Other warranty plans are a hassle. I bought a 6/75 Ford Premium Warranty on my '99 Lightning for $865.

Good luck.

Thumbs up

If you ask me it probably comes down to what you can afford and how concerned you are. Me, I do not want to worry about my vehicle for a long time, so I bought one of the highest (if not the highest) warrenties from Ford. So I'm covered for 6 years or 75,000 miles.

adp, I almost feel jipped. By "6/75" I'm going to assume you have the same warrantee as me, but you paid several hundred less. I think mine was $1100. And you have a Lightning no less. Oh well, I don't care that much.

Don't do it! Send the money to me.

If anything breaks, I'll be over there with my toolbox in a jiffy!
My plan is the same as their's except for my 'floating deductible'.

Talking

DonW, you should take Raoul up on that offer. After only a few trips from Virginia to California, he'll be in the hole. However, be careful on this deductible. I think if you don't "float" the bill, he'll "sink" your truck.

Try www.warrantydirect.com I bought one for my '97 expedition. I bought mine when they had a special where you get there guaranteed Price Refund if you never have to use the warranty you get a full refund at the end of the term - you can't loose - only the interest of the money not sitting in your bank - they are also financially backed in case in several years they go belly up - you don't bite the bullet for it!!

Cool

I totally agree w/all44chem. My last truck, I had the warrenty, never used it and it went with the guy that bought the truck from me. I decided not to get it on my current truck, even though I "plan" on keeping this one well over 100k. I've already started a savings account to be used in the future for the truck IF I need it. Otherwise it (the money not the truck!!!) will probably end up being used for my kids college.
