If the Us economy drug the rest of the world down with it, does that not re enforce the fact that the US has the most important economy in the World?

Take a deep breath, guys.

I think this is a case where "the devil is in the details".

Our Executive Branch and our Legislative Branch are cranking out bills faster than their brains are capable of keeping up with. Both are running on the adrenilen of emotion at this point. Things are going to Hell in a Handbasket and they are in a reaction mode.

Whether you support NAFTA or don't, I think the general provisions of that agreement will prevail and both Canada and Mexico will have a fair shot at bidding on both materiels and management expertise contracts when it comes to the time to bid.

If for no other reason, there are some areas where we here in the US have more or less abandoned the business segments involved in the stimulus package or cut back so far that we cannot be competitive within a reasonable time frame.

My personal take is that the "Buy American" provision is a bit of a knee jerk sort of attempt to gain some political traction in tough times. I also feel it is aimed, if that is the right word, at countries such as China, India etc. where we are at a competitive disadvantage because of wage and currency policies.

But then, what do I know in the end.

Bill

This is Different, this is an AMERICAN Stimulus Bill. Intended to help get AMERICAN Factories running again. Of course they're going to request AMERICAN sources for raw materials...

I'm sick of trying to save the WORLD all the time..

Reading comprehension? I know the difference an absence (hole) and an entirety (whole).

Hey, we're open to a little help.

Genocide in Somalia? Middle East? Taliban? Al Quada? Just pick one and take it.

I had a good laugh when this story hit the news yesterday (or was it the day before?). Back during the election there were a number of Canadians rushing across the border to help Obama with his campaign, Obama rallies in Vancouver, etc etc. I think the Liberals here were more excited about Obama than those in the States. Hell, they even have a candiansforobama website.
I told my wife then that the people here should be careful what they wish for. Turns out it might have been an accurate prediction.
Are the restrictions going to fly? I doubt it. I think they may re-word it in some way that will allow our steel to be used or at least a precentage of it. For now I can gloat a little at the small uproar this story has caused.

Personally the wife and I both think it's a smart move. Your country needs jobs as bad as ours does and it's a good way to do it. It's not like the rules of NAFTA have always been followed to the letter anyways. Either way we'll still be friends just like we've always been.

Exactly, its not going to kill your country and it possibly could really help ours. Like I said before its not like were ending all trade, this is just for the stimulus money aside from that its business as usual.

I dont think we should hit Canada as much as we should ponce on China, Obama needs to get walmart big time. Drexel, Hendredon, major furniture factories who have sent all there jobs and left 100's of facilities empty and ppl unemployed in this area. I mean Walmart is paying china ppl nothing to do the work, I shop walmart and I enjoy it but hell if walmart wont bring there jobs back here and stop making 200billion a year to top ppl then oh well. I guess Kmart, or Roses will come back maybe even a Swiftly-mart.
