Question campers

Had no idea where to list this.

This is the deal. I am going on a week long road trip. Ihave the use of a camper but am unsure of wether or not it will work or not.

The truck is a supercab so I obviosly have a short box. The question is the camper is for a long box, and it is just over 9 feet in length. Will this put too much weight on the rear of the truck?

Has anyone ever done such a thing, and did it work out for you. Or was it more of a pain than it is worth. Will the addition of airbags help at all or just waste more money?

Thanks in advance

Cool

I wouldn't do it because it is not make for your style of truck, you would be putting alot of weight behind the rear axle, not a good idea.

Thumbs down

You're talking about a slide-in camper, right? And it's way to long for your truck, right? Don't do it. That just does not sound safe. I think you would spend so much time worrying about that camper and "IF" it was doing some damage to your truck and worrying about something going wrong that your trip would be a bust. Now if you've got a top or tonneau cover for the back, then you could keep luggage and stuff back there and just stay at a motel, worry free!!

Don't do it.

I recall when I had my 98 4.6L there was an insert saying not to put a slide in camper on the back of the F150's, to much weight.

I still have my insert. It just flat out says camper not recommended for shortbed.
According to their pictures the idea is to get the middle of the camper weight over the axle.

You may see a Supercab on the road with a slide-in but, Ford does make a Supercab Longbed, 157" wheelbase I think.
