Most major auto parts stores will replace them for free if you buy one there. (If you can get the car there)

Take a voltmeter and check. That inline fuse is definetely something that should be considered, kinda weird but that's jap cars for ya.
As far as batteries, 100 bucks should be the most for a normal battery, Ford's usually the best for longevity, had mine 7 yrs. 4-5 yrs is kinda normal. The guy who says Ford batteries are crap either has bad luck or internal electrical problems causing 2 batteries to go in what a year? That is a good time to use the 12 month part warranty, no?
Silicone dielectric grease the terminals- best against corrosion.
