Except the UN and their 17 resolutions. Still Bush's fault though right?

I always love that one from the right, they hate the UN except when they need an excuse. Answer this, if it was the UN's resolution, why not let the UN deal with it? Bottom line, no WMD's, or any of the other excuses given, but we did build a base, err, embassy there, which is exactly what Bush and co. wanted since the 1990s, but he sold you on a war on terra, and you bought it hook, line and sinker. So yes, this one, bad on Bush. Unlike some, I don't blame Bush for everything, nor do I dislike everything he's done, I've actually said many good things about him on this board. I must have missed where you've done that for any Democrat, and I don't expect you will when Obama does something good. Disagreeing with something Bush did, or does, doesn't make me a Bush hater. I'll complain about Obama when he does something I don't like.

The UN can't get out of bed in the morning without the US military. We all know it. So yeah the UN delt with it by sending in american troops. How is setting up a base in the most volitile part of the globe a bad idea? The middles east obviously needs a little help keeping their stuff together. If you watched anything besides BSNBC and PBS you would know that they did find WMDs, just not nuclear weapons. Chemical and Biological weapons don't count though right? So what if he used them on his own people, thats not terrorism right? Its the Global War On Terror, not America vs Al Qaeda. When a Dem does a good thing I'll let you know.

Not quite correct here---we tried to gain a UN resolution to invade Iraq, but seeing how this would pass and would be vetoed we withdrew the resolution and more or less went in with other counties w/o the UN sanctioning.

"In February 2003, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell addressed the United Nations General Assembly, continuing U.S. efforts to gain U.N. authorization for an invasion. Powell presented evidence alleging that Iraq was actively producing chemical and biological weapons and had ties to al-Qaeda, claims that have since been disproved. As a follow-up to Powell’s presentation, the United States, United Kingdom, Poland, Italy, Australia, Denmark, Japan, and Spain proposed a UN Resolution authorizing the use of force in Iraq, but NATO members like Canada, France, and Germany, together with Russia, strongly urged continued diplomacy. Facing a losing vote as well as a likely veto from France and Russia, the U.S., UK, Spain, Poland, Denmark, Italy, Japan, and Australia eventually withdrew their resolution."

"With the failure of its resolution, the U.S. and their supporters abandoned the Security Council procedures and decided to pursue the invasion without U.N. authorization, a decision of questionable legality under international law."

Get your facts straight---the UN did not send us in---we went in on our own and without the UN's permission---"Better to ask for foregivenss than permission", correct?

Where and when did we find the chemical and biological weapons? Even George W admitted himself in one of his last press conferences that the absence of these---they have not been found---has caused him troubles.

I didn't say it was, from a military stand point, it's an excellent place.

I watch neither one of those. The only weapons found were from 1991 and were useless. Certainly no stockpiles were found. The guy that sold you the package says none were found. There is no global war on terror, never was. It's like Reagan's war on drugs, it's just an excuse to spend money and have some PR. What we should have done is screwed Osama hard, and anyone that even thought about helping him. End of story.

What's funny about this whole situation is the people that voted for him will end up being deceived. We will be moving troops from Iraq to Afghanistan so that the pipeline can be finished. Obama will tell them that we need to be there to keep hunting al-qaeda and Osama (yeah right). The man is a hawk (Obama) and a fraud. It will all come out in the wash.

It does seem , that the war in Afghanistan, that we are at the mercy of the Pakistan government. IMO That is not a good situation. They can cut our supply lines off in a heartbeat, then we're committed to airlifting it in. Our C130s are aging fast with all the wear and tear. We have some serious issues ahead in Afghanistan.......

Are you saying Bush went there to start a pipeline?

Afghanistan has BEEN an issue for along time. It was the home of Bin Laden now he lives just accoss the border in Pakistan. We have been there and never left. Obama isnt going to start a war. We are already there. Obama wants to shore up the neglect the Afghan conflict received when Bush took on Iraq. He aint starting a new deal. He wants to fix a broken one.

The link I inserted here, will be the first thing to watch the future of Obama's ability
to be commander and chief. If he agrees to let the Afghan government have the
control they want, it will leave the US forces in severe danger. The afghan government
want control of our forces there. Also to put limits on there movements.
That will be our downfall, and produce a war worse by far than Vietnam. I'm
afraid we are about to enter into an agreement and become unsuccessful
in our efforts there.
Mistake number one in foreign policy, on the table

A quote from the movie platoon "We can't fight a war with our hands tied around our nuts".

Has a person who has been here in the capital of Afghanistan (Kabul) for over 3 months now and a 3 months to go, I've done 67 convoys in that time and just had a suicide bomber blow up a fuel truck less than 100 meters from where I work, I was outisde and had a piece of thigh fly across my face along with one of our guys getting killed I can honestly say Afghanistan is ****! There's nothing here! They have nothing we want and it makes no damn sense. First off there's no damn room here for more people our base is built for 800 personnel and there's currently around 1500. The damn land our camp sits on we pay money to a warload for. Over $40K a month to rent this **** hole. The whole place smells like **** and the people here are worthless! You may disagree with but come out here do a bunch of convoys, see body parts flying around you and people on your camp die and tell me if this country is worth saving. Drop a bomb on this place and call it a day! Obama is a joke and a rock star pres at least Bush had a mind for military but Obama has NO military experience and wants to cut funding anyway. Send more troops to a crowded country with not enough resources to keep the current personnel safe...yeah that's a smart idea! Of course Bush and Obama don't have the ***** to come to the camps that are in the middle of it all, instead they go to Bagram AB in Afghanistan where there's 15K troops and nothing ever happens. I don't care about being here but don't feed me **** and tell me it's chocolate.

I hate it that you are having to go through that, All I can say is God Bless you, and keep him with you. Hopefully there will be an outcome that is good for the sacrifices all of you are paying.
I only wish I could say more or do more to help you, but know my prayers are with you.
