Help! Crappy Paint Job!
Just got my truck back from being completely repainted because the paint was too thick and cracking everywhere (20 Mils). They did a crappy job. They had it for 17 days. When I finally got it back, the door locks don't work; clearcoat on the windows; clearcoat on the front bumper; missing clearcoat on the hood and other places; numorous missed paint places (grey metal exposed); 3 large scratches on the roof and two on the door; left and right roof channels are badly pitted as well as the fenders and many other places from the media blasting. Actually some holes go all-the-way through. The pitting is all over the edges. Looks like some dirt or foreign objects got in the paint on some areas. The inside of my emaculately clean interior was coated with a white/red paint dust. Just filthy! So I get to take it back again to the dealership to try it again!
Extremely pissed off! I can tell this paint job is definately not of the quality of the plant!
Would love to take this truck and shove it up the dealers ***!
However, I am going to propose that the dealership give me top dollar (retail) for my truck and a little below invoice cost on a 2000 or 2001 truck so that I can keep my same position as to payment and term. The dealership will still make money, not as much, but will take care of a loyal customer. I don't want this scarred truck, it looks like sh*t now.
Also, trying to get this truck repainted has been going on since December of '99. I am tired of di*king with these guys.
I feel that because of the above, that this is the least that they could do.
I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY THOUGHTS TO THIS DILEMA!
'97 red F-150 crew cab, 16,000 miles, just turned 2 years old. Emaculate condition, before paint job.

Take pictures and keep records. Also, do NOT accept the truck until it is perfect. By accepting it when it's all screwed up, you are putting yourself in danger of "admitting" it's OK. A letter from an attorney never hurts either.
Hey ironman39,
I also agree with nomo! Make sure you document "everything" pictures, dates and times you spoke with them.
One suggestion may be to take it to another Ford dealership in your area. The job your dealer did was extremely unproffesional and unacceptable! That could be an alternative, instead of fooling with the clowns you're dealing with now.
Making and getting a great deal on a new model F-150 sounds good too. Providing they go for it.... I can't see why not. I think that may be the best deal all the way around!
Of course a legal battle would be my last ditch effort, if everything else failed. But, stand firm and let them know you're not messing around anymore. As previously stated. A letter from your attorney may light a fire under there A$$. Perhaps even a call to one of the main branches of Ford Motor Companies Customer Service may do the trick!
My conclusion would be.... definately try to work out a great deal on a new F-150," I wouldn't let them touch my truck ever again". If that didn't work, take it to another dealer. I'm sure they would do a better job.... couldn't hurt. And lastley, if you're still not getting anywhere....court!
Depending on your ties with the truck you own now. My reasoning for the great deal first , because it sounds like they really "jacked" your truck up! I know if I was in that position, messing with it, would be a hassle and headache.
Hope this gives you a little help and insight, ironman39. Good luck in whatever you do. Welcome aboard.... this is a GREAT site!
