Talking Ford USA taking over Landrover(England)

Ford USA wants to take over the Landrover plant in England.Costs almost 3 billion US Dollars.
I think this has everything to do with the Ford Ranger's popularity in England.
I quess they want to start manufacturing these models overthere.

Would be nice if they could built F150 models there too.

Hej CeesJan:

Put your seatbelt on tight. it might be quite a ride on the European auto scene in the next month or so.
As you know, General Motors and Fiat did a stock swap, with GM getting 20% of Fiat and Fiat getting 5% of GM and GM has an option for the remaining 80% of Fiat ala the SAAB deal. Now, Daimler/Chrysler is saying they may make a bid for all of Fiat, and that is part of Fiat's deal with GM, they can still sell the whole company including GM's portion.
I would bet you that the Rover MG deal might fall through due to intervention by the British Government. Today's news added that Ford may make, or may already have made a bid for BMW in addition to buying Land Rover.

As a side note to the remains of the old British Leyland company and some of it's ancestors, there are still several marque names that are being rumored to possibly returning. Sunbeam & Lanchester are two and I cannot remember the others just now. Oh yes, Wolseley (spelling?) All were either luxury or sporty cars in their time.

Finally the failure of the Volvo Truck/Scania merger may lead to some very interesting situations.

Stay tuned.

Bill

It's a good thing. Ford will probably do for Land Rover what it did for Jaguar.
